I also have 33" tires and 3.73 gears.
Thats exactly what I did, locked out 6th and went.

Did my first tow of the 32' Jayflight from ne IN to the Air Force museum in Dayton O, about 180 miles each way. Have the 4.3 and 5500 miles. Got 7.8 there just in tow/haul mode and 7.6 on the way hone with 6th locked out, but had about 20 minutes of idle. Less annoying having 6 locked out. Did about 65 mph at 2500 rpm, kind of a sweet spot. Get about 14.7 on the highway not towing, not lead footing it. The museum is great and admission is still free!

I posted a trip I made. Even has pics of my MPG where I used Fuelly.com. Also went through a cat scale and posted a pic of the reciept that shows my actual weight. Hope it useful.

Okay, so I did my first "real" all highway trip yesterday on the 4th of July with my new truck. I was empty, by myself and not towing anything. When I started the odometer was at 1170.1 miles. When I finished the trip the odometer was 1465.6 for a total of 295.5 miles.

You can see from the first picture below, Trip A represented the entire trip and I got 15.7 mpg overall and used 18.8 gallons of fuel.

The second picture, Trip B, represented the return trip in which I took a different route back home. I got 17.1 mpg and used 8.3 gallons on the return trip but did have a slight tail wind, probably 5-7 mph for a portion of the ride coming home.

The first leg of the trip had more hills than the return leg so I was not surprised at the mileage difference. I am sure the slight tail wind returning home helped a little as well.

For each leg, I set the cruise at 65 mph and that is where is stayed for the entire trip. At 65 mph my rpm's stayed at 1850. On a couple of hills I dropped down into 5th gear and I locked out 6th gear until I got to the top where it would hold 6th at 65 mph. In 5th gear going up the hills my rpm's were at 2500.

I have to say that this mileage with the 6.2 and 4.30 rear end is as good as I ever got with my 2007 Tundra with the 5.7 liter V-8. I am very happy with it and I am sure it will loosen up a little more as I get more mileage on it. Suffice it to say that the 6.2 with the 4.30 rear end does NOT suck in the gas mileage department. These are big, heavy trucks with little in the way of aerodynamics so I am not complaining at all. If I was that concerned about mileage I would have bought a Prius! LOL.

Funny you mentioned you had a Tundra. I own a 2014 Tundra now. I wanted to sell it when I bought the F250, but my wife convinced me to sell the 2004 Sequoia instead.
I never get better than 15mpg out of the Tundra, and my F250 is stuck at 12.3mpg since I bought it.
Your numbers are rather impressive!

I try to drive like I have an egg between my foot and the gas pedal. I don't drive aggressive off the line etc. but will if I need to. I loved my Tundra as it had tons of power but I do have to say this Super Duty is a nicer truck.
My next test for mpg's is going to be a trip down the interstate here where the speed limit is 80 mph. I am sure it will not get over 15 driving at that speed with the 4.30's.

This past weekend, I drove 400 miles going to 2 different race tracks in 2 days and got 14 mpg (hand calculated) with my race car on the open car trailer.
For the first time ever, the "lie-o-meter" read the same as my hand calculated numbers.

I am very pleased with this 6.2

The TC has a Turbo 2.3L - C-4 auto combo.
It currently holds the NHRA Stock Eliminator records in P/SA and Q/SA

Is that the same engine as in the SVO Mustangs?

Pretty much the same.
The 83-86 TC has everything the same with the exception of the intercooler that was on the SVO.

Only the 87-88 TC had the IC like the SVO.

first Tow

Hi all Did my first tow with the 25 Ft TT. About 200 miles. I got around 10 MPG with the trailer, without about 15.5.
I have the 2012 F250 CC 4x4 with the 6.2 3.73's. This is the shortbed. Overall I can't complain. I got 15.5 without the trailer out to Mariposa from San Jose. Picked it up and away we went. Stopped in Lake Mcswain. So there were some hills to go up and down. I had the tow haul mode engaged. It worked really nice. The trailer is a Aljo lite about 6-7k.
On the highway I had the cruise set at 60. It did go up to 11mpg but the Altamont and Sunol grades dropped it down to 9 then it went back up to 10.
Truck handled great. Pretty happy with the set up.

I believe how fast a driver stabs the throttle has a lot to do with mpg ( on any vehicle)
Mine gets 17.4 empty @ 60 mph (hand calculated) It drops .1 mpg for every mph above 60.

With that same open trailer without a car it got 16.3 mpg ( all my calculations are hand calculated)

I believe aerodynamic drag with these trucks have more to do with mpg than lbs. of load.
My 20 ft. enclosed gets 9.9 mpg ( at best) with the 6.2 and the same trailer gets 8.5 mpg with my 2004 f350 V-10 CC dually with 4.10 gears and no overdrive with an 11 ft. tall slide in camper in the bed.

Hard to believe there is only a 1.4 mpg difference between the 6.2 and that big V-10 dually pulling the same trailer

FWIW, I saw a thread on another forum this morning where the owner claims 18 mpg hywy with a/c on and his 6.2 is a 2015 cc-long bed 4wd. He says it's hand calculated.
Got me beat on mpg

Yeah that has a LOT to do with MPG. Smooth inputs, gentle acceleration, Without the trailer I had the cruise set at 70, AC was on all day too. Max Mpg I got for the day was 15.8. I used the trucks computer to get my numbers. These trucks are big bricks...not aerodynamic at all so it is what it is mpg wise. It's the price we pay for all the toys.
