The other is a large-hat 228E dated 1-57. I bought it from the original owner. He said he bought it new when he was a kid, from the hardware store back in the spring of 1958, so he and his friends could go spearing for Sucker fish out of the creek.
The 288 cost me $8.00 and the 228E was a ten dollar bill
My go-to solvent nowadays is iso-91, and I keep a flip-top squirt cap on a bottle of it.
Yup, alcohol in its various forms is handy stuff, and you have a handy dispenser for it, too.
Pop
Hey Pop! I put IPA in a spray bottle and use it as a no mess fly swatter. Just lead the fly an inch or so and shoot it. They die pretty quick without splattering fly guts all over the place with a real swatter.
I have only a couple odd ball lanterns here in the sea of Coleman's. One is a JC Higgins.
Anyways, what do you base your price limit on, when buying a lantern?
My limit is pretty low, at like $15.00 for a good condition and working lantern. Less, if it's well used, and even less yet, if its missing parts or broken/missing the globe. I pass on quit a few decent ones in the $20-35 dollar range.
Fully agree on your philosophy with the run of the mill 220’s out there. If trying to complete a set or collection, will go higher. Luckily I don’t feel the need to own an Arc or other rare bird.
