I looked into the Curt hitches... Class 3 rear is $270 sans shipping. Shipping a 50lb package (Curt lists weight at 46lb) from Sioux Falls to Freeland though usps is $38...
Finishing up on the last of the interior prep. My Rustmort should be in tomorrow, so I'll get things taped off and hopefully start spraying on Thursday. Will need to rustmort the roof, passenger side floor, all along the top of the firewall where it joins to the part of the dash attached to the cab, and some various small spots on the firewall and floor. Overall, I've been surprised and happy at how clean the metal in the cab is. I was expecting some really nasty rust all over.
Here's a quick look. Gas and e brake pedals are now out.
Rustmort came in, and I converted the firewall and floor pan rust spots. I decided to use a rubberized undercoating rather then paint to help bring down the noise in the cab. Using Bondo heavy duty undercoating, because its all that I can get locally.
Converted, cleaned, and taped up
And here is what I have so far. Sprayed up to the upper part of the dash, the firewall, and the converted floor pan areas to seal them up. After I've taken care of all the rust, I'll coat the whole floor, roof, and any other areas that will be covered by something.
As for further insulation, I'll be using 1/8th inch rubber backed with foil that is usually used for mobile home roofs, but works wonderfully.
Applied the rustmort to the roof and any other spots on the floor that needed it, as well as between the walls below the supercab window.
I took out some of the seam sealer along the rear wall where there was rust underneath. Coated the back wall and between the walls with the undercoating.
Taped off
Converted seam rust
Quality panel fitment
New seam sealer in grey
Final coating on the back
I've also decided to start planning out and building a roll bar/headache rack thing. I wish I could draw well enough to give a visual representation of what I see in my mind. I have a creeping suspicion that it won't turn out the way I want, but I can only try. What I have in mind is a roll bar that mounts to the bed rail on the sides, and then has middle supports going down to the bed that will hold a spare tire. Somewhere on the side rails will be mounts for a jerry can and high lift jack. If I can, I'll also make up a tool box to go in between the angled spare tire holder and the front side of the bed. On top will be 4 rear facing flood lights, and possibly dual cb whips. I think there are a couple more things I had in mind, but I can't really remember...
In the mean time, I've started making up a simple spare tire mount that moves it from under the bed to inside on the drivers side front.
I go back to school on Tuesday, so I won't have as much time to work as I would like
I've come to a halt on work for the most part. I am waiting to get my truck to a body shop to fix up the door jamb before I go any further with the inside.
Here are just a few parts I've been working on
Wiper motor mount and steering wheel mount before...
After
Emergency brake pedal (other side was worse)
Mostly done. Still have to get the last of the grease out from there
Started in on building a gantry crane to take the bed off. I'm doing it out of wood, and I'll be doing a write up once I'm done.
I've been considering a powder coating system for small parts that I can cure in our oven, but they all seem so expensive.... Might have to save before I can buy one
Well the interior is back in.. Enough so that I can drive the truck. Our trailer is too small to hold my truck, and ones locally are around $120 per day, so I decided the cheapest way to get my truck to the body shop is by driving it up there.
I'll post a link to a vid of a recent run. I never get tired of the exhaust rumble

Jameson
Very impressive Jameson! Great detail and progress. This is an awesome thread and you are doing a great job. I look forward to seeing the interior and body work. BTW, I know what you mean about never getting tired of the exhaust rumble!
I have two trucks that are driveing restos. I'm always tinkering with something. that's part of life with these vintage trucks. I'm like you nothing goes back on my trucks unless the part is restored. hood is always open doing something.
