'79 tinker thread
To start, I am sending back the HID conversion lenses that I bought, because they didn't match the description, and the light pattern is crap. They don't have a reflector built in, which leads me to believe they were designed for bi-xenon bulbs.

Ordering up another pair tomorrow. $10 cheaper, and made out of metal and glass instead of polycarbonate and plastic
Next up, my transmission had been shifting really hard, and only shifting at really high rpms. Didn't even occur to me until recently to check the modulator. Crawled under today, and found I hadn't hooked up a vac line to it... Shame on me for not checking
. Got it all hooked up and it's shifting much better now.Lastly thing. My mom and I were driving around the other day, and she pointed out that she could smell antifreeze (had the defroster running). I had been noticing that even though I ran the defroster, my rear window and supercab windows would stay fogged (even after it got really warm inside). After driving around for a while today, my dad pulled the radiator cap off, and the cooling system wasn't terribly pressurized. Did some poking around the heater core, and found the insulation stuff that is on the firewall was wet. Not good. Bought a bottle of radiator stop leak (the stuff you put in to seal leaks in rad, engine, heater core, ect) and drove around for awhile with the heat on, and the smell went away.
Just doing this as a temporary fix to make it through the winter. Over the summer I am going to have the interior stripped down to dynomat and other stuff, so I'll work on replacing the heater core then

Much better quality, and the light pattern is 10x better

This is what was missing from the last set. The reflector in front of the bulb

Also got everything to fit through the dust shield without having to cut it

Brightness stock vs. new lights. Bad pic

Cool! Now that you have had them a couple of days how do you like the pattern? I'm going to be upgrading my rectangles soon. Thanks Glenn

Second one is just to give an idea of throw

I do have to say, I love these a lot. Haven't done much night driving, but the little that I have done has proved that these were worth it. Makes it easier to spot deer and other animals running out of the woods, and lets people know you're there

Thanks for posting the pics! MUCH better than a description....

.
No problem
I do what I can --
Went scrap yarding today, didn't find as many dents in a salvageable condition as I hoped. Saw plenty that were scrapped though

Bought a set of chrome headlight doors, set of floor mats (can't beat $1.64 a piece!), and the little part on the end of the sun visor that hooks into the hold in the center (they didn't even charge me). Almost grabbed a sweet looking headache rack off a chebby, but we couldn't fit it in my dads Nitro, and no way to fit it in my sandblaster to clean it.
Also got a Rolled chrome exhaust tip from Shucks
Pics tomorrow after I put them on

Mats. Can't beat the price

Simple, rolled edge exhaust tip

My list of projects for the summer keeps getting longer. I figure my truck will be out of commission for must of the summer.
Here's what I have planned so far:
Strip interior
New heater core
Sandblast and prime roof and floors
Dynamat
New carpet
Resurface front seat (and new foam)
Finish headliner
Overhead console
New lines for speakers, sub (under carpet)
Remove bed
Clean and POR15 back half of frame
Sandblast and prime back of cab
Clean tanks, prime/paint
Clean and prime/paint rear end
Blast and prime exhaust
Cab lights, cargo light, rear facing lights for backing up, front fog/driving lights
My wallet will decide how much actually gets done. If I can score a headache rack and/or a rear bumper out of a scrap yard, I'll be happy.
Sorry for the rant

I finally got around to switching out the door lock barrels from my parts truck. The ones that came with my '79 didn't work.
Got some parts on the way. I had been wanting to get some new valve covers to replace the ugly ones that I have, and I was aiming for the look of the Ford Racing valve covers. I couldn't choke down $150 for a set though...

In the end I just ordered some Edelbrock ones to match my air cleaner, and got a new crankcase breather filter to go with it
Lastly, I need to look into what my timing should be set at. When I shut the truck off after it's warm, sometimes it will "diesel". Usually that's a sign of too far advanced timing. I set the engine at the '79 spec, but I am wondering if I should have it set otherwise, because I don't have any smog equipment, and don't need to pass smog
