While out for a drive on US Route 60 (no, not Route 66 ) I came upon this:
What I consider ODD about it is the truck is parted at an Antique Shop, but the darn thing is BURIED with crap and weeds all around it - you would think they would have pulled it out and used the bed to DISPLAY a few things!!
There's a few guys that are trying to get swap meets going every couple of months here, Sunday was their first. There were a few nice cars and trucks, a few parts, nothing much interesting as I could import new ones at a lower price than their used/beat up parts were tagged at.
And then... this drove in. Front and cab sheet metal looks nice...
But a Ranger Splash Bed?! WTF?!
Not to mention the ranger mirrors, wooden running boards and bed stakes. People, please!
Wheels were also nice though. Didn't stop to ask what other attrocities were done to it.
BTW, just noticed my son is in the bottom of the last pic. Hi Dany!
I didn't think the truck looked tooo bad. I thought with a little massaging the rear fenders could be made to match the front fenders and the mirrors could be trimmed and fitted better, but once you got around to back side it lost it for me. Too me the rear looked to me like a demolition construction site with a bunch of junk thrown around.
I'm not big on modified trucks but I've seen a couple of old trucks with modern boxes that actually worked. The lines seem to flow pretty good and I also feel a modern box is a lot cheaper and easier to find than either an original or reproduction bed so if a guy can only afford what he can find I say go for it but just don't bolt a bunch of mismatched parts together and call it done. That's the reason I hate rat rods.
To me it looks like the bed has been widened. At least from the rear view. The mirrors are hideous.
The bed overall, has potential, but would like to see a similiar year/style fullsize flairside on there first before trying to work the Ranger bed. I'm not a huge fan of modern beds on older trucks, but there are some metal bumpers out there that can do some pretty good massaging and make them look pretty good with the old cabs.
That may just be the ugliest Ford truck that I have ever seen. A Ranger bed? Love the tailights that are blacked out and the back bumper is almost as bad as the front bumper. And the tail pipes - very classy! No wing windows because of those mirrors. Wow, somebody really did a lot of work on that thing too.
Almost forgot the best - just have to love those sideboards. Like the ones on my grandkids little read wagon.
Well, I didn't know whether to post this in this Oddball thread or over in the Working Trucks thread. As you can see I ended up posting it here. I took this in Roswell, NM. Apparently the Aliens are still with us and they prefer the beautiful Monkey Face grill over the later Manure Spreader grills for their truckin' around the galaxy.

Bobby
I knew it! Aliens like the monkey face more. See, there's a reason why I listened to the voices in my head.
BTW, can anyone measure an old Bell telephone bed's compartments?
Looks like a nice school bus for sale now on ebay.
Gives a whole new meaning to the term "bug eyed". WHY do people mix and match things like that? It's not too hard to find the right grill. And I'll go ahead and ask the obligatory question--are them thar wheels widowmakers?
Don't think the fronts are, believe I see the rings. But the backs might be. I've been fooled, though, by the molded in hump on another set that came up on here a while back so it's hard to say. If somebody's willing to spend the money on it, they can afford to replace the wheels if need be. Stu
