That would be my guess also John I simply don't see that amount of work going into something and leaving a poor fitting panel although in hindsight maybe that's why the doors are open . lol
Holy smokes Joe, if that dentside Ford tracked wrecker showed up at a car show around here, it would be the belle of the ball. Never seen anything like it. It is pretty cool.
My dad bought one of these trucks at a UPS back in the mid '70s. It was made up of multitude of parts. Titled as a '51, had '60s Ford six cylinder and a ND a Delco charting system. All aluminum body.
At some point years ago IIRC it was said that UPS didn't sell the used ones. The ran them to the point where they could not economically keep them running and then scrapped them.
I used to see older trucks during peak season, but these days lots of newer trucks from them.
Fedex sold some, scrapped some depending what was wrong. But they were pretty well rung out by the time either happened.....
