At some point years ago IIRC it was said that UPS didn't sell the used ones. The ran them to the point where they could not economically keep them running and then scrapped them.
....
That is true. I've never seen a retired UPS truck out in the wild. The policy must have gone into effect soon after that one was sold. My understanding, from what I've read, is that UPS decided since their trucks were uniquely bodied with their distinctive front end, they didn't want others using their trucks and potentially pretending to be UPS. Their reputation was worth more to them than the price of an old, used up truck, so they are scrapped instead of sold.
Another interesting UPS/Ford tidbit is that Ford had the contract to build chassis for UPS for years until UPS went to Ford and asked if they could build one with a tighter turning radius. In typical Ford arrogant fashion, Ford told them this is how they make them, so UPS sent out their specs for bid and GM got the next deal.
mack made 12 all wheel drive MH 6122 cab over trucks for UPS between 1987 and 1990 for use crossing the rockies in winter.
somehow, one slipped through the cracks and ended up in private hands. it was built in 1988 and is the only known all wheel drive MH in existence.
