The oil companies have done it, many people think now $3.50 a gallon is a deal for gas. It doesn't stop here, they want us to like $4.00 a gallon or more. It is still ridiculous for my small car to take $50 of gas for a tank of regular.
When I got my first car ('50 Merc.) in the late fifties it was 18 cents. ., And inflation hasn't gone up nearly as fast so either there is less gas to be had or the oil companies have learned they can get away with major gouging.
I filled the Ex today, $136.00 at $3.86 a gallon. I am towing my car hauler this week over the mountains to Nashville this week, my Exxon card is going to love me.
It has obviously been a while since I updated my spreadsheet to reflect "paid" price...but here is a snapshot for fuel prices from 2006 to 2008 (mostly northern Indiana but this includes all towing trips too)...I have the data in my notebook and I'll add it to my spreadsheet because this data doesn't reflect the $4 spike in 2008 nor the DROP following that...but here it is...notice the near or under $2 per gallon back in fall of '06 and early '07!...these prices are for 87 octane...and the sad part is that back then these gallons got you better mpgs since they didn't include that energy robbing ethanol!!!
WOW Indiana didn't see the $4+ prices that Il. did. Our gas is still $4.30!!! No talk of it coming down either. My bmw and my excursion smell like popcorn machines when there idleing, got love cook county.Highest gas prices ,close to the highest realestate taxes,$110 license plate stickers, city stickers,10% purchase tax, $20 to park your car downtown for 2 hours, toll booths every 10 miles and the city had to cancel the 4th of July fireworks display cause of the cost of the operation. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

chirst, i'd move lol not ment to be mean but that would suck.
Remember this list does NOT include the 2008 $4 per gallon nor does it include the recent spike...when I put in that data...you'll see Indiana has indeed hit $4+ per gallon...and Indiana has nothing on Chi-town...but we were 7th highest in the country a few weeks back...what an honor...huh...
Filled up (not the Ex as she still has plenty in her tank since I barely drive her in the summer) yesterday both of our other cars...gas here in NE Indiana "dropped" to $3.41/gallon for 87 octane at the Sam's station...it is SAD that we think that is low...boy have they won this mind game...
Diesel is still running right at $4/gallon though...
