We're in the middle of a family vacation out in California.
We've seen some pretty varied gas prices let me tell you.
In the SoCal area it was in the $3.79 range as was it in the San Fran area. Although some individual stations are higher and some lower...that is about the average there.
When we got to Yosemite it was $4.79 per gallon of 87 octane...we thought that was bad until yesterday when we were traveling thru Death Valley and came upon this!!!
Thankfully I planned ahead at both of those places and had plenty of fuel in the car and didn't have to pay those gouging prices!
Then we crossed just into Nevada (we're in Vegas now) and we were pleasantly surprised by
And a few miles later we actually saw $3.21 per gallon for 87!...I guess Nevada has lower taxes or something?...don't know.
Figured I'd share some topic related photos of the fuel prices we've seen on this trip.
Per gasbuddy.com it looks like fuel in Fort Wayne is running right around $3.79 per gallon for 87 octane...
Joe.
A lot of it has to do with how far it is to the next station and how greedy and lazy they are.
Personally I feel it is all GREED and lack of regulations and a very STRONG and POWERFUL and WEALTHY lobby network of our congress...
I mean look at the poor dairy farmers...all those years ago they didn't have the $$$ to FIGHT regulation on a gallon of milk...but a gallon of fuel has no regulation and the SOB oil companies can use whatever reason they want to DECOUPLE the price at the pump from the RAW material price?
Look at 2008...the first time the at the pump price hit $4/gallon for 87...the barrel price was ~$145...fast forward a few Obama years...the barrel price has been at $100 or LESS yet the at the pump price has been very near $4/gallon for 87 and OVER that for diesel...the barrel price is roughly 70% of what it was in 2008 yet the at pump price has reamained at near $4...funny how it is nearing election time and the at pump price is beginning to drop...I'm not complaining...but I find it interesting...and confusing that Obama made such a BIG DEAL about the at pump price in 2008 stating that Bush and Chenney were tied to BIG OIL...well Obama...what's your excuse for the raw materials being 70% of what they were in '08 yet the at pump price has hovered around or above what it was in '08 for the LAST 4 YEARS?!?!?!
We're headed to Henderson tomorrow for 2 days and we'll see Lake Mead and Hoover Dam before heading back to SoCal where the girls will visit Disney Land on Tuesday and Wednesday...
Joe.
Don't forget to go to Valley of Fire and Red Rock National Conservation.

When I said lazy I forgot some states don't pump gas for you so I will go with the greed answer also. He who has the gold makes the rules and if they feel like getting greedy it is a dangerous place for those that don't have the gold. Did you ever notice how they pop up with excuses to raise gas prices (refineries went down, hurricane, changing over to winter gas, EPA is has new regulations, OPEC isn't releasing much gas, other countries are feuding, etc) but they never say; all is going smoothly now so it will go down in price. It just goes down sometimes but none of the commoners ever know why, and it always seems to go back up a little more than it went down. I liked it better years ago when gas was cheap and the US was stronger all around.
Started this post when gas was at 3.23 a gallon for regular now that's what it's DOWN to now here on jersey shore, and about a mile away one station at 3.85 a gallon.
