46 years ago today...The Great Blizzard of 1978...a typical MA highway...
i remember that storm.
two state plows got stuck side by side on a bridge over the raritan river. it took 13 hours to get a bulldozer out there to climb the bridge wrong dirrection and pull them both over the crest of the bridge.
the plow contractor trucks came down the road and got onto the parkway about 500 foot behind me.
i was sitting side by side with a state trooper, who was on his way to gas up his cruiser.
he sat in my 75 granada for 12 hours until we got tired and i started running low on gas too.
we got out and started moving cars until we could turn around, and i blasted through the snow windrow/berm onto clean road. than on the parkway to be home 20 minutes later.
8 months later someone stopped at the firehouse to drop off my front license plate and bracket, with the fire department plate still attached. apparently it got ripped off when i hit the windrow and pushed to the side of the road, where a state employee picked it up and dropped it of at the firehouse. i never even noticed it was missing until one of the guys ran the plate number and called me to come pick it up.
