We had two and sometimes 3 of them in the patrol cars. 1 had the traditional function, one was the gate release on the electronic shotgun rack and if the 3rd connected to the manual siren.

To this day I miss the floor mounted dimmer switch but manufacturers went Euro style to be cheap.

Last car I had with that switch was a 76 Cadillac Sedan De Ville. Super tanker 500cid and 50' long.

i still have 5 vehicles with floor dimmer. 65 Falcon, 66 7 Litre, 78 F250, 79 F350, and the 88 F-SuperDuty
only 2 have dimmer on column, the 02 F350 and the 18 exploder.

Damn how could I forget my 76 F 100 Ranger? That was the last vehicle I had with that switch. Must be getting old. The caddy I had almost 40 years ago.
