The 3v V10 is a beast and did a great job for 286k+ miles I owned mine before selling it and replacing it with a '16' 6.7 which is another beast of an engine. If Ford would of had the 3v V10 in a new F350 I would of bought another gasser instead of the diesel.
Out of curiosity, the 6.2 was proven to be exceptionably reliable by then. If you are sure you would have bought a v10, what prevented you from buying a 6.2, with very comparable numbers to a 3v v10. I know the v10 made less hp, but more torque, especially down low. But with the advantage of the 6r140, the 6.2 actually gets the power/torque to the ground a little better.

I already owned a 2012 (still do) 6.2 but with 3.73 gears with over 100k miles at that time. I'm sure 4.30 gears would help but the 6.2 always seems to be searching for gears. It's a great engine for carrying weight, running around town but for pulling the 5th I personally felt it would be working it more than I wanted.
When looking at the #s of both they are very similar but I always enjoyed the V10 more. I guess it's just a personal feeling thing. Don't get me wrong that the 6.2 isn't capable I just felt the V10 was better and if they would of put the 6 speed transmission in it that would of been the cats meow.

I think the 3v v10 would have been a beast with the 6r140. BUT, With 5th and 6th both being OD, I still don’t think it would have had enough to keep it from constantly shifting out of 6th when towing heavy. I don’t think anything other than a 6.4 or 6.7 would. Guess that’s why we get to lock out gears.
7.3s are extremely reliable, but they are dogs, tuned or not.
Very reliable dogs!
My hauling priority is not passing traffic but getting there every time. And it's a dog I can work on.
If I had a nickel for every time I got passed by a toy hauler hauling too heavy with no tow mirrors and the tires horribly underinflated I could retire!
Sure the new diesels are great but it's all relative. It's all fruit but it's apples and oranges. "Back in the day" a 0-60mph time of 6 seconds was impressive and only the higher end sports cars were able to do that (apples). Nowadays you get that from your grocery getters (oranges). Sure the 7.3 is horribly underpowered compared to today's machines because it hasn't been produced in over 15 years and thechnology is from over 20 years ago. Lots of things have happened since then making trucks stonger, more powerful, and a whole lot more comfortable. My dad has a '16 Ram and it's an absolute beast but that price tag is too rich for my blood so I'll settle for my mule.
Just a little side note hijack, but I wish that were true for my Lightning! Woulda saved me a ton of money.

Just guessing... Transmission problems? If you're drag racing, doing burnouts, and other exhibitionist driving, use the gear selector in Low/1 instead of using Drive.
The Chevy 8.1L reminds me of the old FoMoCo 460. Abundant torque on tap, but a seriously limited ability to pass a gas pump.
My V10 shares that limited ability. That seems to be the only major downside to that motor. And at this point it's better for me to stop at more gas stations than pay payments for something new that gets better fuel economy. No payments (soon) and poor economy is better that ridiculous payments and ok fuel economy.

You're kidding, right? The Gen 2 L's have the 4R100, not the older E4OD like in your vid (basically the same trans, yes I know, but still different) and the internals for the 4R put in the L's were the same Ford used for the 7.3L PSD, if you believe the internet, so no, the trans is actually a pretty stout piece for the L.
That being said, listed in my sig is an aftermarket trans that I put in my L preventively (with a higher stall) to lower the chances I might grenade in the water box, many years ago, when I was drag racing and autocrossing.
Using a gear selector of Low/1 doesn't work at the track either because you need wheel speed to generate enough heat.
