By show of hands who has scored on their own team and will NEVER live it down?
*Raises hand*
I play left fullback and I was sprinting to catch a sent ball and I had a guy right behind me. I got there and tried to spin around to face the right way and kick it while I was coming around. Except I mis-kicked and our goalie was right behind me. He hadn't called the ball so I figured he was still in the net.
The coach said at half time that it was the goalie's fault and not mine, but it's still me who won't live it down.
And that brings me to another point:
Why the HELL do coaches think that just because someone is a Senior instead of say a Sophomore it makes them a better athlete. The kid who was playing goalie that game is a Senior. He messed up his ankle part way through the season. He was on crutches for 2 months. Our season is only from September - November. November is tournament time. We had another goalie who was a Sophomore (my grade) who played much smarter than the Senior. Yet coach decided to play the Senior even though he'd only practiced with us for like half a practice before that game after he was off his crutches. He got halfway through the practice and started puking like crazy.
Hey Pete, is it that hard to kick a round ball straight? I watched about half of it,and those guys seem to have crooked feet or something. lol
It really is pretty hard to kick a rolling ball low and straight. Especially with your lases. It's easier using your instep, but even then it can really pop up on you. Your foot slopes front to back and inside to outside. Hitting a round object in a straight line using a wedge can be pretty difficult.
I play fullback (defense) so keeping it low and straight is NOT a goal of mine. My whole job is to just smash the ball as far as I can upfield and towards the edge of the field.
And if I can injure the other team's forwards in the process it's just an added bonus.
It's best if you can hit em in the face and give em nosebleeds. Then you yell to the ref that he's bleeding and they have to take him out of the game until he stops bleeding.
