Hmm. Must be a southern thing. I've never even seen one that I can remember seeing in person.
Around here it's all old DMs, RDs, and Granite series Macks for triaxles.
The town has a beautiful Granite series tandem axle road tractor with a 35 ton Eager Beaver RGN. I'll see if I can tag along in one of the trucks on a delivery to the town and try to snag a picture of it if it's there.
Right now for working trucks we have a 198? Mack R model road tractor, a Mack DM triaxle dump, an International S2600 I believe it is triaxle dump with LARGE box. 35+ yards heaped, and a 197? Road Boss for a yard truck. We have a 1990 Mack CH613 road tractor that is currently down. We aren't 100% sure what's up with it. It started rolling smoke black as coal and plenty of it. It seems like it lost a bit of power too. We thought it was turbo failure, but the mechanic we brought it to thought it was the injection pump.
Heya Sheldon, hows life in the north? Weather is getting nicer everyday. Work picking up a bit up there yet?
Life is not bad at all up here man. Weather has been nice and warm, and business is looking good. Road bans are on right now till the first or second week in may, and then it looks like I will have enough work to keep busy. Road bans right now arent bad, because I have to change a few of the lower torque rod bushings on the chalmers suspension on my dump truck.
Being a new guy in the field, and not having my name out yet, Im expecting to be a little slower for the first few years, but in all honesty, with the few jobs i have lined up already, it will make a respectable amount of money for the year.
I may have to work out in alberta in the winter if the patch picks up, but its all goods.
I read your getting pretty busy too, thats awesome!
Sounds good Sheldon. I'm on year #7, so i have a bit of time under my belt. The first year was tough, I wont lie. I spent money where I shouldnt have, advertised in all the wrong places, and took every single job that came my way, many I should have ran from. You've got a good head on your shoulders and a good bit of experiece, so you'll do fine. The one thing you cant speed up is referrals, which are the best. I dropped all my ad's the last 3 years, they were useless. I was buried just in referrals. This year I took out a half page in the phone book, so that will be a huge asset.

In the winter we'll have to get you on that show Ice Road Truckers!
I ever tell ya Jim, that I actually got called to be on that ice road trucker show? A lady that works on the show seen an add that I had put online about looking for a trucking job, and that I was just starting out. She called me a few times, but in the end i end up taking a job in alberta for better money.
I do like to watch the show now, and kinda regret not going on it, but oh well!

No kidding? That would have been a trip. I thought that those guys made some good money.
Yeah it woulda been neat. And yes they do make good money, but I was going to make even better money in alberta, and I did. The work in alberta was more my style too, long hours, lots of driving, and when I wasnt driving, lots of hard physical work!
You gotta do what make you the $$ and if your happy doing it,even better! The other way you could sign autographs on the show circuit "Meet Sheldon From Ice Road Truckers" Imagine what that would do to Lisa!
Yeah in all honesty, at the time I was really going to work away from home to make as much cash as I could, that was my main goal.
I really enjoyed working in the patch too. I love working hard, and making my muscles sore.
How was the rest of your weekend Jim??
Im gonna head to bed but Ill read about it in the morning
