Not sure exactly..8,000 - 9,000 feet. Anymore its hard to get in remote enough that you don't see any people, but I know a few places..
Hey everyone. Went for a drive today to check out the train station I'll be departing from when I go home for Thanksgiving. Drove around town and saw a few neat things.
Steam tractor on display in the park:
is this the tractor you are buying for your farm in Colorado??
I went "roughing it" with a couple buddy's... at a cabin. Friggin' city boys!!
"I couldn't sleep last night for crap... all those noises and light!!"
noises = refrigerator, ice cube maker, etc
light = massive street light 80' from the cabin
"so.... where are we supposed to ride?"
asked when given a Polaris 500 atv to ride over 26,000 acres of West Virginia woodlands....
thankfully, the shooting part went well, but maybe just because they were scared
I had a blast ripping around & doing donuts on the Kawasaki Mojave 250 quad - i like to shift & sliiiidddddde through turns!!

Hah, no, not unless I want to build some track so Union Pacific can deliver a coal car every week so I can feed the monster. And, I doubt the greenies in Colorado would like that very much. I'd have granolas chaining themselves to my porch in protest.

Now this idea I like! Tom there is enough room on the back deck for a recliner, you'll be a hit when your tearing (literally) down main street with those metal finned wheels!
So Tom, what was the prognosis on Blue, two frozen U-joints on the rear?

good mornin back atcha!!
the prognosis is that blue is very sick.
rear u-joint was seized in the drive-shaft.
front joint was hammered/welded into the shaft/flange.
i THINK the shaft is salvageable, i will not know till this afternoon when i can get it to the machine shop to check the yokes to see if they are round or oval.
the front flange that goes between the t-case and the d-shaft is wasted.
one side was broken and welded, and welded wrong at that.
the other side is broken clean through, and they covered it with grease.
so i need a new flange at the minimum, and it will take at least 3 days to get one from ford.
if i ever find the butcher that was "maintaining" the truck before i bought it, i may just "fix" him with the 25 lb sledgehammer he used to put the u-joints in.
Rain is gone for a while I hope. My horses feet are getting too soft. GRRRRRRRR and their coats have bulked so it may just be a effen cold winter after all. BRRRRRRRR

Holy ****. How long have you owned the truck, and, how was it behaving to let you know there was something wrong?

Its amazing its been driving this long.
i have had it for 2 years tomorrow. it has had a minor vibration since i bought it, but i just put off doing the u-joints.
the past week the minor vibration turned into a major vibration, with squeaks. so i knew it was time to do them before i dropped a shaft.
it needs front axle seals also. they will get done in the winter when work gets slow.
