That would be irritating to not be able to pull a trailer without permission.
Yep goofy law i guess has been in the books since '03 I just found out about last month when a friend got pinched. Some states have just started enforcing them since they need more money
If you have a commercial registered or a combined weight of over 10k lb you haveto gat DOT number, health card and basically everything an OTR truck has except the CDL

The DOT# is easy and don't cost anything, you can get it on the internet
I still have my number from when I was in the trucking business. I'm gonna put mine on a magnetic sign
The trailers also have to be inspected. That may get to be a might expencive,I have 5 trailers (think I need to cut back some)
Good luck on the job hunt tomorrow Jim. An electrician job opened up here in Iowa City here recently, working on some of the new GE locomotives. Talk about complicated electronics! But the jobs filled so quickly, I didn't even have a chance to get the word out. That and I learned electrical work on DC/AC locomotives is a pretty specific trade.
Well kiddies, 5 a.m. comes early and I am still suffering from jet lag from yesterday, I actually took a nap in my truck over lunch. I best be gettin to bed!
that's not 10k additional lbs, that would be just about your truck a trailer with a couple quads on it
WTF? Really? My truck weighs just over 8,000lbs EMPTY with about 1/2 a tank of fuel. Add a small trailer and a few quads to the mix, and you're right I'm easily over 10K....I've never had any problems in the past.
