I have heard a womans nylon works really well at keeping the scratches down and it is not too thick to impact the magnets strength. Just my .02
haha i wish i had thought about doing something like this before i mounted my dual whips on my tool box i had a mag mount and it scratched the heck out of my roof. also the sides of my drivers side cab when it would get knocked off.
Sorry to steal the thread but it will be for just a second. So I found a CB today digging through some stuff of mine and decided what the hay, and installed it. It had everything i needed except I couldnt find the actual antenna. Has the wiring and a magnet mount but no antenna. If i just buy a firestik from clays will that screw right in to the magnet mount?

Check with your local radio shack....you should be able to get a replacement mast for about $10. Just make sure it is for CB's. Different lengths are for different frequencies.
This is the first time I have tried to post pics..So if I screw it up please move it. I took out my cup holders along with the metal frame that the cup holders mount in. I installed a Galaxy 919 which is a decent size radio in a small whole. It has an output of 30 watts with out and amp. I also took out that weird thing that has a hook, I imagine its for holding a bag. Bag of what, I am not sure I then put a 8 watt CB speaker. I put a Wilson 1000 antenna on my roof. I did not want to drill a hole so I drilled a hole in one of the racks that is on top of the roof and ran the antenna wire down under the rails through the back window and then fished it to the on the passengers side A pillar I think its called. I ran the power directly to the batter and the speaker to the fuse box. With the squelch control I hear absolutely no engine noise through the speaker.
I have a question you all can help me out with...I hope.
I have a wilson 500 antenna, its a mag mount, I ran the wire through the 3rd brake light. I also have my Sirius antenna running the same way, my question is:
I get a lot of feed back through the stereo when I key the mike, wether the stereo is on or off it doesnt matter. Is it because the antennas are so close?
Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
I also think I bought a bum CB because every once and an while it will just turn on by itself and make this loud screeching noise...the on off **** is off and it does this.
When I get some extra scratch I am gonna buy one from Clays, whats a good CB that has a WX frequency?
Cobra 29 ST is a excellent radio and has the weather channels along with priority channels and ant. calibration.
Runing antenna cables parallel to other can cause cross feeding, try seperating the wires and see if this elimanates your problems. Also I would check the grounding side of your ant. cable connections. It is the braided or metal jacket just under the rubber coating, It should be in contact with the metal connector. Also the copper wire should not touch the connector.
