there's no drilling on the dash, it's just 3M adhesive, which has worked surprisingly well so far for 2 years now.

Pictures of my 2005 & 2008. These are VHF not CB. I have done a few in-dash CB installs on the 2005 to 2007's. The install in the 2008 is not convenient, done that way to keep my wife happy.

Roof mounts are easy to do, usually you can get away with the factory bracket. Insurance companies tend to frown on them due to head injuries in accidents.

I like that on the 2008. That would be a great spot on my truck.

All tho like you said it would be tricky to change channels..

I have an '05 sans overhead console. If I pull the roof liner, are the mounting brackets there anyway?

Thanks,

You don't have to pull the headliner. If you pull the front of it down just a bit you will feel a ridge about 11/2" wide. you can screw thru the headliner in to that ridge to mount your bracket. Depending on the radio configuration it may be difficult to tip it down enough to see the display well. Wires can be tucked underneath the headliner and run down the pillar.
Hope this helps

I was hoping to build a console that runs front to back, about 12-18" long. Are there provisions behind the liner for something like that? As the next alternative, are there any provisions to build a console left to right? They used to make them [decades ago] that fit above the sun visors.
TIA

Here it is. It should fit your 2005. They look pretty good. I had this brand in my last truck.

So do I but did you see the price tag? WOW! Also, there's no room for the MDT/Laptop. I have it mounted high and swiveling now but I can't get to where the radio is in the picture.
Thanks for the ideas though, I can always incorporate something into the F650 dash panel.
