Here is mine. Its in a galls three unit stack that I modified to fit vertically in my old truck and put it in my new one. Sorry things were so dirty but I did not have time to clean much and had a bunch of drinks spill on it.
I see several people have mounted radios using brackets to the floor between the seats and the dash. Has anyone tried fitting a console-like box between the Ford console and the dash?
yea, sorry about that. not sure what is going on, posted several pics in the past but could not get this one to go, i do have pics of the install in my gallery, sorry bout the inconvenience.

It would be interesting to see that "heavy duty adjustable (brick) cell phone mount" installed on the ceiling but it may be too close to the rear view mirror. Also, what type of cap do you have on your truck? Can you take a few pics of at as well? Thanks!
I doubt it would work very well attached to the roof. I'm sure you're correct about it being in the way of the rear view also.
The cap is a LEER 100XL. I will dig up a couple photos for you this weekend or take some new ones. I lost my laptop harddrive a few days ago and need to restore my backups. Just not in the mood tonight to be dealing with it. I'll have something for you this weekend.

Rick...
I've been looking at the Leer caps... I like the 100XL and the 100XQ. No rush on the pics. Just whenever you have time. Thanks!
Rick,
It's pretty sad when Radioshack has to resort to displaying the "frequency" of CB channels in order to sell their product but i guess any selling gimmick works. How about going to a ham multimode (W/11 meter convert) if your license warranties it.

I didn't realize it was a gimmick. I originally purchased it because of the options built into it, namely the scan function which I use regularly when on the highway. I've had it for many years now and it's been a reliable unit. I've tried 3 other radios since I purchased it and ended up re installing the TRC-485 in the end.
He wrote a very nice article on the install. I'm going this route for mine.
Thanks for the REALLY QUICK response. I know your response was really quick because I found that same article about two minutes after I posted the question (while I was looking back at his post) and I went back and edited out the question.
I was really surprised to find that someone was apparently answering my question at the same time that I was editing the message to take the question out.
I guess that's what happens when there are always well over a hundred people reading this one forum area at any time.
_Rick_,
I wasn't knocking your choice of the TRC-485, just the point that RS put a freq. display on a fixed channel radio. I didn't initially realize it was a sideband radio as well so i appoligize if you took it the wrong way. I do commend you on the cleanliness of the installation.

Perhaps he realizes that the "11 meter convert" would be enough to lose his ham license.
I also should have editied the word "Multimode" to "Multiband" meaning: depending on your class if it warranted the use of a multiband. The legality of converting a ham rig to 11 meters (by a ham) has never been an issue and has been done for eons. Yes, per FCC any "legal" modifications must be done by a "commercial" licensed radio operator but most are done by everyday hams as well as CBers. Speeking of modifications heres a good 10 meter convert for your 485 if you feel comfortable with the procedure.

Didn't even dawn on me as a knock at all Dave.
I don't use sideband too much but it get used. I use the scan alot though. I think scan should be standard on more CB radios. It's a very nice feature to have when on long distance highway trips.
The TRC-485's are surdy units. I've been pleased enough with the radio I have a second one on standby for when the one I use packs it in.
I haven't done the mod to it, but I have looked into it in the past and I might jump into it oneday if I'm feeling confident and find the time.
