I suppose that would work well, but wouldnt allow any give...It would only be a problem if using a cheap grade of laminate, any mid to high end stuff will be stout enough to be okay.
Well alrighty then! I guess Ill compare the costs on foam vs non-foam backing and then go from there on ease of installation! So with this foam stuff you dont need to do anything but lay it over something? The foam takes the place of a moisture barrier?
Basically yes, if you get it from Lowes or depot I belive all they have is the vapor barrier kind. Not positive, but thats what I remember. I have been on floors without the padding, they are very uncomfortable after awhile, as there is no give.
For the foam you just lay it over the vinyl you were talking about, then tape the edges and seams with like a packing tape. Then, start clicking away...

For some reason I think your helper works more than my helpers will!
Do you use the vapor barrier kind even on wooden SUBfloors?! I could definitely understand it on concrete...
No, it doesnt really matter there, assuming the floors are insulated. Come to think of it, it's more to allow the floor to float properly and to be more comfortable underfoot... I know plenty of contractors that leave it out, I'm just not one of them. Also, it helps take up any imperfections in the sub floor your dealing with...
I am too. It took 45 minutes to get home from the diner cause the roads are sheets of ice since it decided to start RAINING while its 23 degrees. I wish we would get plain old snow here. None of this mixed slushly crap.
