I sure wish that they had one measurement for the weather! I dont know F worth a crap haha. But according to your thermometer Lisa, yeah its pretty chilly where you are. It would be about minus 32ish F here, give or take.
Tristan, got any good tips for freezing pipes? I dont have that problem yet, just curious!
Also have ya ever had to deal with freezing stink pipes? I have one that I just cant reach from a ladder haha, but luckily its not the main one!
Well Im no plumber by any means but if you catch one thats frozen and you need to thaw it(assuming it hasnt ruptured), make sure you do it slowly. I think they make the regular insulation and some electric heaters that wrap around pipes and keep them above freezing to begin with.
Fortunately for us, the stink pipes werent a big problem. Usually there wasnt a lot of piping that was in these older homes and the rest were the problem of the city! I dont think the drugs the majority of these people were taking would allow the stink pipes to freeze anyways. Sad but true!
Besides, if we see more than 10 days in the single digits here hell has truly frozen over!
But this is what she wanted, and we went & picked it up already: Dyson
I guess because of the dogs & cat, we've been through like 5 vacuums in 10 years. We both got REALLY tired of buying new ones, filters, belts, etc, etc, etc. This one never needs a filter replaced, and should last a helluva lot longer than the last few. It's a friggin' awesome vacuum, and we've already put it through a few tests. Highly recommend it if you're in the market. BTW, it's pretty expensive, but Sam's has it for $399, which is $150 less than retail. Couldn't believe it!!
She's very practical, and some other stuff she wants is also very practical. I just have to find the time to get it!! I JUST got the phone SW I needed to start my testing this week. I was hoping to be half-way done already, but I haven't even left the office. Waiting on the SW to download now. Not a good day.
You can always go with heat tape on the pipes you can get to, and if they are exposed a carefully aimed heat gun will unthaw most pipes pretty well. At least thats what I did Saturday for my friend. If they are in the wall....no clue how to fix stupid like that.
I have good insulation, and heat tape on the main water line coming in from the house. I made sure there is no air drafts under the home, and nothing has frozen there this year!
I actually put this heat tape insulation wrap over the heat tape, and I dont think the pipes would freeze even with the heat tape unplugged, but im way to chickensh17 to try!
First time we had our stink pipes freeze up though, found it very odd. Also only in the bathroom, the one for the kitchen is good. I chalked it up to having really hot showers.
Joe I think thats a great gift, practical is the way to go!
On edit: thanks for the link Ray, just checking it out now. I believe the pipe is insulated right up to the bottom of the roofline. Its just over the roofline where it was freezing up. I thought about heat tape too, but I would prefer to go with a non electric solution. I realize thats not always possible though
We had 3 heatguns for the company. It was so bad at one of the properties we just gave the tenant one of them and showed them what to do if it froze so they wouldnt have to wait on us!

A vacuum?????????? How in the Hell do y'all get away with chit like that?? If I'd ever given her something for the house as a birthday, anniversary Xmas, Mothers day gift I'd ended up divorced 30 years sooner than I did.

She's VERY practical, Mark. What can I say. Always been that way. I bought her a really nice set of pots & pans one year. Now her mother is TOTALLY opposite!! She refuses to accept anything as a gift that has handle. LOL...
But if Randy ever bought me a domestic item like that as a gift, I'd be a little pissed.
Its as if to say "here woman, vacuum up my mess"
OOOOooo!
And if you're the type of couple that splits up duties evenly, its for the both of you, in which case its not a gift...its an item that needed to be purchased masquerading as a gift.
Not passing judgment Joe. If you wife wanted it, I think its great that you get her what she wanted.
In my case though, wow, I take Mark's Ex Wife's side.
First cold start (was in middle/lower teens) of the year...coughed a lil white smoke out for like 5 seconds and now the jet kicked in! Wasnt plugged in either!
