Spent about $12,000 last winter getting it to run 11.80's. I think with the new carburetor that is not leaking out of every place there is to leak and the new headers being built in Michigan right now it should run 11.30's to 11.40's. The old carb is a Barry Grant pos and the headers are some hedman street headers that are just to small.

We got into more projects than we should have and ended up missing the first few races. Ok here we go. On thanksgiving day last year started with the DJM lowering I-beams and new Lakewood drag shocks. Everything went well and the front was 4 1/2 inches lower in the front after we got the new tires mounted on that saturday.

Next we moved onto the ladder bar rear suspension and the roll cage, both from Chris Alston's Chassisworks. That was a pretty interesting time since the truck is at my parents house 75 miles from my house and I worked 45 miles from my own house. I put a lot of miles on my car last winter.

The fourth big project was rebuilding the motor as the 472 from the previous year threw a rod and wiped everything out. We built a 514 with Jon kaase Super Cobra Jet heads. Then the fun started. The heads had been decked to fit a smaller deck block so we had to drill out the intake fastening holes to align with the heads. After the engine was running the head develped a small leak which filled the cylinder with green water. Ended up getting a brand new set of Kaase P-51's as a trade. This led to buying a second brand new set of $150 pushrods.

We also built a new dash with all new guages, re-upholstered the interior and added carpet. We also added two 5 point harnesses and a halon fire extinguisher. The expenses were adding up at this point.

As a last minute project we decided that a stock 72 C6 probably wouldn't hold up to the 600-700 hp so we rebuilt the trans with Alto Red Clutches and steels.

The truck never really ran well all year so we are hoping for better results this year. We have minimized the number of projects this year by a mile. We are going to replace the trans cooler lines with the puch lok hose from summit, re-route the brake lines to accomodate the 2" fenderwell exit headers. i already took the engine out to inspect bearings, change the leaky intake gasket and to add a SFI approved flywheel because I like my feet.

The old girl had come a long way since its days as a I6 300 3 on the tree work truck that I bought for $1200 in 1998 to haul feed to out 4H show animals.

Sounds sweet Miles,
now is the rear tubbed and what size tires are you running there.
That was 11.80's in a qtr right?
Do you run that on the street also or just full race. Got out of
racing years ago when with the fisrt wife nad then a kid made it
rather difficult to buy parts so i sold mine.I can't believe the racers
that run on the street these days back then they were full race.

The rear is tubbed with some massive steel tubs that look almost silly. the rear tires are 33X15X15 goodyear eagles on 15X12 centerline convo pros with 5X5 chevy pattern since at the time they were not made in 5X5.5 pattern. The last time I drove it on the street I was asked in a stern voice to never drive it again or I would receive the tickets instead of the 11 warnings. That was quite the conversation with the police. He actually brought a calculator with him to show me the grand total of the warnings. I in no way agree with street racing and I was not racing on this occasion. I was simply "warming the tires" on a chilly night.

You may have misunderstood miles wasn't talking about street racing these things are tagged
StreetRods but they are full race as far as I am concerned. guess you don't carry much in the bed then.
I know about the 11 warnings thing also, at 1 time I had 6 62 Impala's 1 street, 1 track,
4 for parts. I was working on the race car on the side of my parents house and was moving it
out onto the street to hook up the tow bar and a cop came down the road.
Open headers, no brakes, no tags, no e brake slicks and he just kept going from there.
Fortunately he was a neighbor and let me go.
Do you have any videos?

I understood what you meant Dave, my soul just gets taken over my the devil when I drive it in town so I don't anymore so I don't end up in jail. A few years back we got the new 472 running in early April. We decided to take it out for a little spin to see what she felt like. My dad lives about 3 miles outside a little town on a dirt road in the middle of a 1 square miles section. We fired up the truck and let it warm up. He decided that he should drive since I tend to hot rod it too much and he wanted to break it in a little. We left the driveway and crept up the 1/2 mile dirt road about 2 miles an hour. After what seemed like an eternity we reached the paved road. We slowly turned the corner with only headers and slicks and my dad floors it, pegs the tach, hits the rev limiter and grabs second. About 50 mph we are sideways, sliding all over the road. He never blinks and eye and grabs third. He ran it on up to 6500 in third before ever lifting. All the while I am pissed that he got to rod it first. We coast up to the nearest neighbors house and turn around. He just looks over and says " guess the devil got me." I suppose racing runs in the family.

I really can't haul anything. There is probably 30" between the tubs and then a small 5" tunnel to cover the coilover mount.

I really need to get a video camera to get some better footage. i have a couple short videos. The first two are the first time firing the engine last winter. These videos are with the engine the had leaky heads, right before we tore it down. The last video is from a spectator at Pinks.

514wyo at Pinks!

Sweet Miles,
Nice tub job too but you should have warned me
about having the sound down although
it did sound good.
You should buzz out to Delaware and hook up
with Phil, he's running a late model truck but
keeps blowing the motors, I think he's running either
too much boost or to big a nitrous shot

Good sunday afternoon to fellow travellers that come this way today. Wow Dave, unless I miss my guess that is one of the few times I have seen Miles lite up running pictures text like that. That is a nice job and truck Miles.

My ticket days ended a long time ago with a pretty slightly off stock 1966 F-100 4X4 short box, 4 speed NP, inout transfercase, with a decked 352, RV cam, and solid brass tin backed rod bearings. The reason I know is because one dark night in the winter many years ago in the middle of nowhere I got to see one of the rods hanging out of the block.

A short time before I had received yet another speeding ticket for an unknown speed but settled for 81 miles as only then could he tag me after locking brakes to a full skid 4 times and release to regain control. He nailed on the last lock up to which I' am not really sure if he wanted to actualy pound on me for a while or haul me to jail, we settled on a $81 which may seem cheap but this was in 78 when the speed limit was still 55.

That was a bigger fine then. This HP had a history of violence as well. By now you may wonder just how fast was I really going to which I cannot answer or make an atempt. I remember I had a straight away, level, and the toe of my boot was rubbing the fan belt. The world was going by at a pretty good clip feeling the need for speed, most likely listening to something on my 8 track, the color had long since drained out of the face of the passenger seated next to me remaining speachless through out the ordeal, AND the speedometer was BUSTED!

I had seen the HP coming over the hill towards me over 2miles away but was well past him by the time I could shut down to which I simply pulled over to the side of the road and waited, you cannot out run a radio.

Evening fellas. heck of a long day today. Tore a bunch of poorly installed quarter round trim out of three bedrooms, masked the floors with rosin paper and hauled 6 truck loads of crap to our new house.

Never got real warm here Orin but there was not a breath of wind all day. Just got all bundled up and go the work done. It felt pretty nice to be outside working for a change. Got a few pics of the place before the real work starts. I think my plans are bigger than my wallet however.

bedroom #1

bedroom #2 (needs new paint badly)

family room

dining room (also needs paint badly)

kitchen with two dishwashers

Utility room

man cave

Evening Miles, Absolutely wonderful that you are now getting into your new house. What home is complete without a man cave but ding dang it, warn someone before you throw a green room at them like that. That should have been put on a link to open with caution and please notify of the need for sun glasses, preferably welding goggles.LOL!

Wow they had a pink thing going on to that I' ll bet a hundred dollars you will fix. I some how don't think two dishwashers will be together too much in the kitchen. I see job delegation happening though.

Yeah these things cost but they are worth it in the end. Right ON!

I think the welding glasses are appropriate for that room. It was a 6 year old boys rooms with a jungle theme. It is going to be the first room to get painted on friday. Surprisingly the pink did not look to bad with the previous owners decorations but it is soon to be primed until we can decide on a color.

Morning/Afternoon Wyoming! Miles, congrats on getting into your house! I'll have to check out the pics at home. Had a crappy morning, my '06 gelled up on me on the way to work this morning. Luckily, I hadn't gotten out of town when she quit. Otherwise, that may not have been fun, since the temp was at -8 at the time. Spent most of the morning getting her towed back to the house. Damn.
