Mark, if you arrange a little hunting weekend, I may just have to make that trip north. No muzzle loader here though, just the 30-06, which now I wonder if it's even legal in IA since Lisa's 7mm isn't. I could always bring the 12 ga and some slugs though, or more than likely borrow rifle that's allowed up there.
As Leo said, no rifles up here. You would get to slowly throw big chunks of lead just like the rest of us. Some have shotguns with rifled barrels that help with the accuracy but most just use a regular shotgun.
Between the boss and I..he brought it up of course...again. He lets stuff bother him to no end and he brings it up and brings it up and just wont let things go. I finally walked into his office and said "LOOK!". We just discussed my intentions, how I didn't appreciate being pushed around, and that he shouldn't believe the rumor mill in this place. I ended it by telling him "This is MY personal issue, and I will deal with it the way I see fit. You have no right to assume I will leave the company high and dry and that I will leave here on bad terms. I am a genuine person and I do what I promise and I always finish what I start". And we sorta left it at that.
Jeremy in Iowa, rifles are not allowed. Shotguns and smoke sticks are. We'll just find you a decent smoke stick and you'll be good to go.
Atta girl! You make me proud!
I've never shot a muzzle loader before. That could be fun!

So I could bring my XD 45 to hunt deer with? That just doesn't seem right. Although I am quite accurate with it.

That just doesn't make sense to me. What's their reasoning behind it? Public safety due to the flat lands and a rifle's range?

Yeah thanks. I guess I'm kind of like a cat. Friendly but will scratch if I get backed into a corner.
A muzzleloader won't be too much of a surprise difference from your 30-06...it just takes a bit more preparation and makes a bunch of smoke, and you add all the ingredients yourself. One thing to keep in mind with these guns though is that you get ONE chance to make the kill. Even with speed loaders, if you make a bad shot or miss, you're screwed. There is no quick 2nd shot. I can teach you how to load and clean a muzzleloader that isn't a problem.
The rifle rule, as it was explained to me, is based on exactly what you mentioned. Flatter topography and long distance weapons don't mix sometimes. Lots of farms, lots of potential for someone getting hurt or damage to property or a building.

I will have to take you up on that sometime. None of my friends around here hunt with a muzzleloader, so I don't know a lot about the intricacies of them.

Man, that one wouldn't even have to be taken out of context.
