She really is into a routine. Mine are similar, but not quite as trained as that. They do know when I leave in the morning that it's time to go in their crates, but when it's time for bed, it's like pulling teeth to get them up from the living room floor and into the bedroom.
How old are yours?
When my dog was even younger she was like that too, bedtime had no meaning. Now bedtime (no matter what time of the day) gets her to go into her kennel. Sometimes at night she wants to play, but she still goes in pretty decent!
I had two pit mix females that were really good dog now I have a staffordshire male
he's the one in my avatar
all somewhat hard headed but real sweet dispositions
you know Olde English Bulldogs are English Bulldog, Pit, Mastiff mixes. I've heard good things about Staffordshire's.

lol. I can just see you trying to drag three dogs into the bedroom every night.
For Mattie I think routine is a sense of security. Who knows what kind of life she had before I got her. I think she likes knowing what is going to happen, no surprises. I can tell you the biggest problem I have had to work with on her is her separation anxiety. She hardly ever lets me out of her sight, and is so loyal to me she won't even let anyone else take her for a walk. You should have seen her on Halloween. She went with us Trick Or Treating (in her bee costume). At some point my niece was having a hard time walking in her costume, so I gave my brother-in-law Mattie's leash, to go carry my niece up a set of stairs. We were lagging behind and Mattie hit the brakes, would not go anywhere until we caught up with the group.
She loves Randy though so that helps a bunch, I can at least leave her with him without her getting too upset and worried that I won't come back.
And Ray, I have never crated a dog...but Mattie was already crate trained and prefers a crate during the day. Its real hard to un-crate train a dog.
Mark - i highly encourage you to check out the shelters...those dogs really need homes.
I only crate 2 of my 3 dogs. I've tried leaving them all 3 out in the house, but usually come home to find they have chewed up one of their beds and have stuffing strewn around the living room. At least they didn't chew up any furniture or anything but their bed. The one I leave out looks the most intimidating anyway, so I kind of like leaving him out for guarding the house while I'm away.

Two of them (litter mates) are 5 years old, and the other one is 6 years old.

The hardest part is just getting them on their feet. Once they're up, they head right in. The puppies (what I still call the two youngest, even though they're far from being puppies) get up pretty well, but Gauge just looks at me like I'm almost asking him to do the impossible...every night. You'd think he'd eventually learn I'm not going to just leave him there.
WOW, I finally caught up!! I guess it pays to be on the west coast for something after all- ya'll go to sleep and I get to read LOL. But by the time I get up DAMNIT- I gotta start all over again LOL. Tomorrow I'll be in the field till 1600 on Tuesday, so there goes another friggin what- 20 pages to catch up on....
You guys (and Lisa) got cool dogs. I got a gay little Maltese, but he's kinda cool I guess. We gotta have a non-alergenic dog due to my daughter's bad alergies, so that really limits our choices. The first one we had was a beautiful pure breed that my dad got us when I was a recruiter in NY. A real cool dog that loved the hell outta ya and did some neat tricks. We had him for about 2.5 years when I came back to California. Well, not one week into being home god damned coyotes hoped my back fence and took him off.... found him the next two days later in the canyon all chewed up... So we got the next one from a pound, and this dumb a$$ dog won't even give you a kiss. Whatever, we like him anyways...
Not much just trying to catch up on all the OT stuff I missed.
I didn't get to watch the game, dammit, I was busy cooking and the kids had the TV in the living room on cartoons. Heard the score on the way home and maybe it was a good thing I didn't get to see it.
Did I miss anything very interesting in the OT today?

My dog goes to to the old trash pile (old farmyard, still has a trash pile from waaaaaaay back in the day that we havent got all cleaned up yet) and she drags old shoes, and boots, and you name it. The other day i seen her playing with something, and it was a hide off of a dead animal, no idea where she found that.
The last part of what you said made me chuckle too, i can just see a dog doing that, "you want me to go where?!" haha.

Thanks, she is super hyper though, i chase her around, and play with her for hours, and she loves it! She will run till she almost falls over, then she runs to her kennel, drinks a ton of water, then wants to play some more!
Right now we spend alot of time outside playing around and stuff, since im off of work right now, its nice to have her around for that.
And you must have a picture of your dog in the bee costume to post?!

That coyote story makes me so mad, everytime I see a yote out here, out comes my gun, and if im in my truck, down goes my foot to the floor, be damned if they are gonna hurt my pup.
Thats sad too, sounds like you guys had a nice dog there.

Funny you say that. Today I was cleaning out my shed, I had a bunch of boxes in there from when I moved in., I had boxes and stuff all over the back patio. Mattie was sitting there whining, I couldn't quite figure out why. I guess now I know.
