in naked style without any fairing, its considered a standard motorcycle. with the fairings, bags, and taller windshield, its a sport-touring motorcycle. i drove a harley that my wifes aunt owns. they're an ok bike, but not really suited for the type of riding i want to do. relatively slow, uncomfortable (unless you're into a 30g glider), and they come with too much of an attitude/lifestyle for me.
Ive never ridden a harley myself, but I do think they are nice bikes. As for the speed/mpg/power I also know nothing about them.
Your right about the lifestyle and attitude though. You sound kinda like me, just wanna ride something, not have to worry about getting all decked out in the "proper" leathers and style to go and do that!
I've got a 2000 TL1000R Suzuki V-twin. Nice bike, looks like a Hayabusa. I never get to ride it, I guess that is what happens when it lives in your brother's garage 10 hours away. The Bandit looks like a pretty sweet bike with power to back up its looks. I hope you get one.
those tl1000r's are a rare breed. awesome bikes. i looked at a few used ones, but higher mileage ones are still a premium price. the bandit is a torqey bike, awesome power. i should have it by the weekend.
Prep, the harley's/victory's, and other custom choppers just can't come close to the refined smoothness, power, and efficiency of the japanese/asian bikes. i gotta admit... the domestics got a ways to go to top the likes of suzuki, yamaha, honda, kawasaki... even BMW is falling behind these days, but still a premium price both new and used. they're using platforms that were old 15 years ago... aside from their die-hard enthusiasts, they do nothing to entice a new rider IMO...

Very true.
A guy like me, I like the looks of them. But as for the rest I pretty much see it the same way. I like old stuff, and I would love to get an old harley, but like you said before Im not interested in the lifestyle and whatnot.
