right now its really lenient (sp?) to get your license. you can write your learners then the driving test the next day if the schedule allows. the new rules are a graduated driver program similar to the automobile license system. you write your learners, then its a year as a learner with massive restrictions such as time of driving, speed zones, distance from your place of residence, and i believe there's going to be a CC restriction. then you move to a novice 1 level, a little less restriction, not sure what they are. then there's novice 2, less restriction again, then you can challenge the test. so basically a 3 year period between your learners test to the driving test. if you have ANY offenses during your learner/novice period, they will make you wait longer.

there are lots of cases where i agree with this system because there's a lot of kids out there with big crotch rockets that shouldn't be riding pedal bikes. i don't think it should be a blanket policy though. i think that after you write your learners test, provided you pass, they should imediately do a driving test for competence and ability. if you ace that with no practise, make a 3 month (or something) waiting period then take the real test. if you flunk the first driving test, there should be a driving course offered but you still have to run the full 3 years...

i was going to buy a small bike, one that my wife could handle and do her test too, but the season is 1/2 over and we won't be around for october so Schraders said they'll lend me one at the cost of a bottle of rum...

Thanks for the info.
I was under the impression now as a learner on a bike there is restrictions like time of day, and how far you can go from your place of address (one good reason about having a po box number in saskatoon, covers alot of area!) and stuff like that.

But yeah it sounds like thats something I am gonna have to look into myself. I have a bik I can use but it has some electrical gremlins on it, so I may have to try to borrow/rent one, or buy one to use.

I dont wanna go through all that graduated driver BS. IMO they should kick that out the door for anyone that has a license higher then a class 3, or has had their license for tenish years.

Good luck on that......Some real thinking would be required and that`s not too likely to happen! ;

Yeah it seems like they dont get paid to think eh?

I was looking on kijiji today for a cheap bike that I could plate. More and more I think about it, the more and more I would like to get it sooner then later too.

i disagree but agree with you prep. i know some truckers that couldn't drive anything other than a truck, so to hand them a bike and license without some restrictions would be handing them and possibly someone else a death ticket.

i just think that they should have a pile of bikes on hand and when someone passes the learners written test, they imediately jump on a bike and course to see what they're capable of. if it seems that they know what they're doing, give them an appointment to do the driving test. if they haven't the slightest clue what to do, or seem stupid about the matter, make them do a complete driver training course and follow all the ladder steps of the GLP to getting their license.

Things is as fine as can be expected Sherm. I`m on a pretty nice job with some very easy to work with good people.
Is that MB getting getting enough fuel to run Jack? Maybe there`s water or rust in the lines, filter or the injection pump?

fuel pump leaks, the hand pump leaks. the return hoses leak. all kinds of air in the closed system, i did get it to fire tho. i also get the other MB to fire off and run. the worst one there ran for 1 minute and puked oil all over the front seat. the gauges are out of the dash. the one MB is a complete car and the other one is a parts car. the yellow parts car
half of the engine is missing and gauges and it fired up and ran.

Yeah I guess I didnt think that one through. I know most truckers (even the crappy ones) are probably better drivers then most people out there in smaller vehicles (due to the care and attention even a crappy trucker has to use while driving a big rig), but I guess that still doesnt mean that they know what they are doing on two wheels.

Like there is a reason the 1a driver can drive any vehicle in the other classes(although some ya have ot have endorsements for) but yeah two wheels for some guys might not work.

As for SGI having bikes around and letting ya jump on one right after you take a learners, that would be sweet, but thats a tall order!

I can see where driver training for a bike should almost be mandatory. There are too many people that just had a dirtbike when they were younger (myself included) and think that they would be ok on the road.

The difference for some people is some people are mature responsible drivers, and some arent, but how the hell would sgi ever know the difference?!

Ah well, I was gonna go to sgi to get the books and set up a written today, but I forgot, damn ritchie brothers auction!
