I am Torn Guys!! I love my six oh but, it is a 03 with 230k on it. I looked at a used 2011 F350 lariat AND I LIKE IT!!! After driving the F550 for the last four months I like the features more and more, the cab is quiet. the gauges are better. built in sat radio, brake controller and upfitter switches. I think if they would other me a decent trade in i might just go for it.
Between torrential downpours, I'm getting my basement waterproofed. The process is taking about twice as long as it shud because every time I get on a good roll, the rain sets in. Can't wait to be out of the hole...
That is the thing Sherm, it has been a very good truck! it has never broke down on the road, yes I have done the egr delete, put gauges in it, customs tunes, the thing will pull the ***** off the brass monkey, and i don't put near as many kms a year on as did in previous years. I would put 40-50k a year but now i am 15-20k a year if not less. this is my problem that milage does not warrant a $45k truck. but the new trucks ARE SO NICE!
Not even for it being a 6.uhoh, more the fact that your getting up there in the mileage.
Im in the same boat as you. My 7.3 has just over 320,000 on it, and its been rock solid reliable, I have only put a idler pulley into the "engine" But at 320k on the odo, and Im gonna be having a kid right away, Im going to need something with a crew cab, and theres no denying that even the most reliable vehicles will someday mile out and need to be replaced.
Im sure your truck is paid off, and Im sure you dont miss having a truck payment at all either haha.
My thing is the camping season. pulling the fifth wheel around the country I really don't want a break down 1000kms from home and ruin a good vacation. not saying that couldn't happen with a newer truck, it just would be covered under warranty ( if I don't mod the siht out of it! Which i have being looking at all afternoon )
I think what i might do is sell my truck this fall, I can go the winter without it. then in spring i will look for a 11my truck which then will be close to three years old and maybe in the $35-38 range. this is how i bought my 03 with 50k on it in 05.
Aaron, why wouldn't you want it nice so you could ride the bike
It's in roughly 2-dozen pieces in my dad's garage hahaha. I'm doing a whole bunch of work on it all at once so I only have to take the plastics off once and put them back on once.
I've got a big list of stuff I'm doing to it:
1) Fender Eliminator Kit
2) LED integrated tail light
3) Adjusting throttle, brakes and clutch
4) Drilled out the brake fluid reservoir and retapped with new bolts (previous owner stripped the last ones)
5) Filled all my brake fluids to the top
6) Valve adjustment (as required by the service manual)
7) New air filter
The more I can do to it all at once, the happier I'll be. I want to spend a lot of time riding my bike this summer and as little time as I can fixing/maintaining everything.
That's why I'm doing it all at once. It'll be done and I can forget about it until winter hits and next summer.
EDIT: Lots of these things are minor for the bike, but the previous owner never really took care of the bike that well... For example, when I bought the bike off of him the chain had about a full 2 years of grease and grit on it. That's just 1 portion of the bike that wasn't maintained, so I'm going to bring this bike back up to speed (maintenance wise).
