No doubt Paul.
I always thought that if I bought an F150 it would be with the 5.4. Supposeidly they get better fuel economy as well as more power.

I think the 5.4l is the way to go in the f150, I'm on my second 5.4l and really like them. My '07 has the 3:73 gears and has good power and decent fuel mileage.

mine as the 5.4 with 3.55 rear end, i've gotten 21 on the highway with it last fall with only 6k on it. haven't had a nice calm day on the highway to test it out yet this season. our last trip to regina we had a headwind both ways, doing 120, and i got 16mpg...

if i buy another F150 it'll be a 2wd with the 3v4.6 if it still exists.

Fom, when i have this F150 paid for, you might have yourself a deal if you still have the '05 F350!!

Curious, but why? (on both the engine and the 2wd)

I had a 4.6 liter and it was awesome! The 5.4 would be a great choice too, nothing wrong with that either!

Ive heard guys say that the 5.4 gets just as good mileage as a 4.6 but ive never actually seen it. 4.6 generally gets a few mpg more, but lacks in power (a trade off I would be willing to try!)

I could handle either engine though

i plan on keeping my current truck. its 4x4 and 5.4L. the 3v 4.6L has almost the same power as the current 5.4, a little less torque, and since i already have 4x4, i'd get a truck with 2wd, the 4.6 would suffice as the truck would be lighter. i'd ballpark to spend the same amount, but get some other options instead of 4x4 and the larger engine.

I have got as good as 21mpg on the highway doing 110klm when is was new, haven't really checked what it gets lately, seems like any time we go somewhere I have the camper behind. In the city It usually get in the 14-16mpg range. I'm very impresses with the Escape though, it's getting around 20mpg in the city with my Wife driving and she has a much heavier foot than me. It even got 20mpg pulling the boat May long. The last highway trip with the Escape, she was right around the 30 mark.

I miss my old 85 4x4 with the stroker. It did not matter how fast or how slow, empty or loaded to the gills, that old girl would get 21 mph and did it in style. It was a fully loaded Lariet with a five (granny low and a one thru four). It had an a/c unit that would blow ice out of it while riding on 35" BFGs. You could ride at 55 or cruise at 100. It did not matter. You could mash it at 100 and it would point the speedometer straight down and keep on climbing. Never knew how fast it would actually run. Did not have the *****. Ford does not make them that way anymore.

I sure cant complain with my truck regarding economy of it, its just pure awesome. Last time I checked it while towing my boat, in and around the city, and doing city and highway driving, it averaged 19 mpg on that tank!

Empty its even better!
