Morning everyone, snow in the forecast, reasonable temps... Happy Hump Day once again!!!
I do farm but, my dad lives on the farm. He lets me keep some of my stuff out there but it is his home and I respect that. I think you and I have the same opinion about being around people every day all day.

Snowing like crazy here now, it was a slow drive home from Moose Jaw tonight.

We built a new shop at work and added 50 feet on to it and it is still to small.

The one in Yorkton seems like a better deal since it`s it`s a 56 so I think it`s more valuable and comes with $7,000 of new parts but it should have almost an immediate paint job where as Donn`s is quite presentable as is. Then this one totally blows me away...except for the US exchange rate and the distance. 55 ford F100 truck

Would be a bad day in anybody's books, the day someone messes with my pooches. I love my dogs as much (or more) as my kids. Messing with my dogs would make me angry. Nobody likes me when I'm angry
No snow here tho the wind chill was pretty ugly today. Some highways have travel not recommended: Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure: Highway Conditions
Messing with one of my dogs would the same as messing with my family, likely that would cause me to go off the deep end!

You live in a town or an acreage Gerry, what is the max you`re allowed? Everyone I`ve talked with has always said the same thing, big your garage/shop at least twice as big as you think you`ll need and likely it`ll still be too small in the end.

I never understood why townships, RM's and other municipal governments take dumb stands like that. How they should look at it is more tax revenue. I'm sure you weren't planning on welding C-can's together for your shop, it will be a presentable, professional, and certified structure. They need to pull their heads out of their asses. I know a guy here who went through a similar thing. RM wouldn't allow him to build a 40x60 shop on 8 acres that he had recently purchased. He even explained to them that it was going to be used for trades to put tools and materials in while they build his house. They denied it because no application for permit had come for the house construction. In my mind, Property Tax on 8 acres of bare land is about $3-400, land value about 80k, taxed on half... Put a 100k building on it, the tax revenue off that lot has now went to probably $1200 or more.

I could probably do all my buildings here without ever talking to the RM about it, but its better to ask permission than forgiveness nowadays.

Snow clearing time... Happy Thursday all!!!

That's right Sherm, it would be an engineered steel building & they wouldn't even be able to see it from the road.....

Happy Thursday mornin'all. All we got was maybe 2inches of powder over night, temps at -8C. Gerry; can't you build a nice house lookin shop with a suite in it? Check out Garage Journal on the H.A.M.B. They have lot's of good idea's. We actually have a couple of House/Shops in our Municipality. Where we live we have 1 acre lots just inside the city limits, but are part of a municipality. We're on well and septic, Jordan probably never used the bathroom in the house to pee till he was 10yrs old Our taxes are very reasonable and the services are above and beyond the call of duty. We are also within 5-10 minutes of all the amenities we need. Counrty living in the city limits. Have a great day guy's

I might run that past them Grant, build a big shop with living quarters upstairs, like a loft,
design the front of the building to look like a house.....

Afternoon everyone!!
Jus taking a warm up break. Out clearin snow for the neighbors again. Gerry across road is sicker than a dog. Took the Tractor to the store a mile away, topped her off with some Petrol grabbed a couple ice creams!! Cam and I got alot of comments.......sitting outside store on the tractor eating ice cream on this decent but windy day. Only us boys :P
Hope you boys in SK have a great day, stay safe and keep the rubber side down!!

Grant.....I heard we got lucky last night. The beaches area got nailed with 15cm + overnight. Should get interesting throughout the afternoon with the winds picking up. Drive safe on that North Perimeter bud. Was in Niverville doing a quote last night......People that live out that way are CRAZY!!! Like doing 130, passing with barely enough time. Did a job there just over a year ago and the housing boom.....Holy snapper. Town is now filled with Beige and light beige stucco'd homes. Gawd and I glad I live where I do......

Curtis; The perimeter was OK in the driving lane at 80KM, but the guy's passing in the hammer Lane were nuts. I have no clue what the hurry is. Probably the 4X4 testosterone kickin in. Just to see them in the toolies down the road. There was only one in the ditch on my way to work this mornin. As for the driver's on south 59, most of those people are from South America, no clue about winter driving. I was in Winkler for a hockey tourney a few weeks ago, and the same thing. Have a good one BUD.

I saw that once it, a big steel shop with the front third as living quarters on a farm, that really made sense and likely it was easier, cheaper to heat than two separate buildings.

I've seen a few of these as well. A few that started out as pole buildings, some engineered steel, perhaps the most common is the arch rib Quonset. It would actually be cheaper in the long run if you were building it as a house, because regardless of whether the shop or the living space is your priority, you've already got a foundation, walls, roof, etc. around and over you, no need to do it all over again. Long as the living space meets the minimum requirements, they shouldn't deny it. I would check to see if there's a board of appeals somewhere though, I don't like being denied a logical explanation.

A few years back I put a large addition on our house with the typical garage on the front. The RM wanted 20' setbacks which would have only allowed me a 20' garage, I wanted 26'. They denied the permit, I appealed it and won. The property lines don't start until about 25' from the road edge, that 25' was maintained by home owners. We mowed the grass there, cleared the snow there if need be, but it was actually still the road allowance and the RM's responsibility. I told them if I'm not allowed to build what I please on my own property, then they'd better start maintaining their property.

Happy Friday all, hope you're wearing your long underwear...

Morning Boys/Girls!!

Awesome to hear the Girls won GOLD!!! Finished up at neighbors and he was watching game yesterday. I think there was only 7 mins left. Down 2. They must have made one heck of a come back.

Grant, you gotta do what I do when a guy comes barreling up the hammer lane about to white you out......Let em pass you on the right while you blinker into his lane. I call that move defensive driving. Better than me hitting the ditch getting a blast of zero vis or slowing a bit and getting rear ended

Sherm, Gerry, Morris, My customer in Niverville is selling her home. This is her exact plan. She asked me to quarterback/build her vision. She put a deposit on a 30'x54' quonset last summer (huge sale on them) and is currently looking for land. Will definately be an interesting build if I'm rewarded with the project!!! If I get it, i'll keep you guys posted with some snapshots.
