I did a quick search on this subject and came up with VERY little.
Has anyone put a 5.4L 4V into an F-150 or Expedition or know of a project that was done?
On the surface, it seems EXTREMELY possible if not downright bolt up with some minor plumbing stuff. Maybe the harnesses are way different or the way the engines are managed are completely incompatible. I'm not sure. It seems that if it were as easy a swap as it seems to be in my head, more people would be doing it, IDK
keep us poted if you find any info... I'm getting a fair amount of miles on my 2v f-150, and would love to put a 4v in there... I can't see there being a whole lot different.
That's what I'm saying. I'm going to start digging, and ANYthing I find I will post here. I just hope someone on the board has done it and will find this thread. I'd be surprised if someone hasn't - those Navi engines are top shelf: 4V Cobra heads, partially forged internals, etc.
I'm thinking a guy is some gnarly cams, bigger injectors/MAF, O/R exhaust and a sweet custom tune from 400HP
Well, well, friggin well. Y'all said to post what I find out.
I spoke to the wiring/tuning guru at Dallas Mustang today - a fellow named Mike Williams. Just a super nice guy to begin with and just so happens to know his bidness. And oh by the way, guy runs a uberadical turbo'd 1,500 HP DOHC 5.4 in his 8 second Lightning drag truck. I call that credibility...
Anyways, Mike says as long as you have the complete engine wiring harness from the Intech, it's plug-and-play with a custom tune. He said there were a couple of different ways to approach the swap, and you might have to do some exhaust fabbing (maybe not), but the most straighforward was this as long as you were willing to drop some coin on the dyno. And who wouldn't do that anyway, ya know?
So there you have it. It can be done, and it's relatively simple. Heh - relatively simple....
That is exactly what i posted bud... tuning is it all and the ignition from either engine will work.... you dont even gain HP from the COP to the twin COIL packs... and if you had a 5.4l to start with the exaust is the exact same... only if your doing a 4.6l to a 5.4l swap is when the modification to the down tube needs to be done other wise... straight foward..
the only diff between the Nav motor and the reg f-150 5.4l is the heads...DOHC vs SOHC... rest of the swap is just as straight foward as stated before...thanks for the conformation..
The exhaust ports are the same on a 2V and 4V? Doesn't sound right to me.
The plugs are in the middle of the head so you would either have to hack up the COP wiring to make it reach or change the harness. I would do the harness because other sensors are in different spots too.
no but the width of the motor is... thats why the 4.6l exhaust comes out at a different angle than the 5.4l the 5.4l is like .7inches wider due to the longer stroke...
