That is exactly what i posted bud... tuning is it all and the ignition from either engine will work....
...thanks for the conformation..
Well, not EXACTLY but you were more right than you realized, which was spot on

"should" is different than "Will because I know it will because I've done it" like this guy at Dallas Mustang has done.
But you were the first one that called it, and now we all know with little doubt that it'll work as long as you have the complete engine harness and are willing to spend money at the dyno dialing it in.
Now somebody needs to loan me about $3,000 so I can go to eBay and buy
my current truck which is my daily driver used to be a 4.6l V8 and i swaped in a 02 5.4l and used everything from my 4.6l including the exhaust manifolds and EGR system... my 4.6l is not PI... and the 5.4l is PI...Nav motors use another all together...but the fireing order is similar enought to run efficieatly as it is ... im getting 13 town and 16 highway on my 5.4l with it running on a 4.6l computer which is a completley different tune... no more different than the nav motor will be from my 4.6l ... just in a different direction... i cant say 100 percent that it will run but fireing order is the same and the rest of the internals are the same...just the amount of fuel and air entering the motor is diff...there for the 4.6l tune will not be able to properly adjust for optimal HP and Torque..but none the less should still run
The tuning is not necesarly dynoing... d/l the stock tune from a navigator will do the job just fine if they use the same transmissions...
Just out of curiosity could you just swap the ECM in your truck with an ECM out of a Navigator? I would think if the wiring harnesses are the same at the engine it should be the same at the other end. Plus the Nav ECM will at least have a stock tune that you know will work.

Mike at Dallas Mustang said a definitive NO to this question.
He said that the best way is to plug the Navi engine harness into the F150 chassis/cab harness and work the gremlins out with the tune. He said that the ECMs were different and trying to integrate the new ECM was loads more difficult that tuning the F150 ECM for the Intech.
I wonder why that is. It seems like if the engine and ECM worked fine in a Nav they should work in the truck the only difference between the 2 is the wiring harness between them. Seems like it would be harder to calibrate the truck ECM for the different temperature sensors, different air flow, and different fuel curve of the Nav engine.
Mod probably yanked the link because we are not suppose to sell stuff or post advertisments. Just a guess though.
That is correct. I would have PM' or e-mailed you to let you know, but you have both features turned off. Selling is not allowed in the threads, just out free classified ad section.

Thanks for the heads up, it wasnt mine (never met/talked/called him, just read the ad). I just started noticing piston slap at 134k and had the same idea but no cash. I was just trying to help the guy out, he could get a complete running navi for the same price as the engine he found, just thought it might make his swap easier.
It's going to happen. My brother, Kencaid, has a 1999 F150 with a lil weener of a 4.6 - just won't get the job done for him as a fuel truck.
So I turned him onto Mike at Dallas Mustangs and Mike said "Bring it OWN!! This'll be a first and we don't get those very often!!!"
So Kencaid went out and bought hisself a 5.4 DOHC with 41,000 miles out of North Carolina, had it freight shipped to him in East Texas, and is dropping the pickup off with the DOHC in the back at Dallas Mustangs on January 14th and they are going to handle the swap and the tuning and turn it back to him by the 28th tuned and ready to roll!
I'll keep you all posted. This kicks MAJOR @$$!!! Stay tuned!

BURNS, if I had to guess, I would say that he would. But I hate to put words in the man's mouth (or anything else for that matter - LOL!) Give him a ring.
call 888-687-8264 and ask for Mike Wilson. Williams was the wrong surname.
Ken dropped off the truck at Dallas Mustangs Monday to start the swap.
DM is going to do a baseline pull on the truck Tuesday just to see where things started, then they are going to plow into it full bore and start pulling the 4.6 to put from where that came a DOHC 5.4. YUM!!
One thing they said is that they might need to re-pin a few of the plugs. Figured it would be a minor step for climbers like them once they matched wiring diagrams for the F150 and Navi. Time consuming maybe, but pretty straighforward.
They'll be boring, but I'll post up the dyno numbers on the 4.6 when I get them!
