you guys ever seen that computer chip for the 5.4 on ebay for 25 bux would that make me a diffrence... i cant get that computer from the 250 it was gone lol got the flexplate from it 8 bolt i herd to drop this motor in i have to lift the body off the truck lolol nice anyway i went to autozone to see what diffrences there are between the two and only the pass side motor mounts are diffrent and only by one number (4.6-5.4) i will be tring to do the swap over the weekend and hope to be running asap ill figure how to drop pix here soon thnx for all the help
you shouldn't need the computer from the 250, just have yours tuned for the 5.4.
This Navi swap went in without the cab being lifted off. Dallas Mustang said if they had it to do all over again, they would lift the cab off the frame to swap the DOHC 5.4 in. Since you're doing your swap with an Expy, I could see that being a major obstacle without some extremely specific and heavy duty equipment.

Reason: spell check
And I am a minor tech still pondering how I will use my motor crane to lift motor over bumper...lol anyway I'm hopeing it will run w/o a tune since I'm broke 4 now and know of no local tune shops
I don't think you're gonna get around the tune. I was told by my tuner supplier he could do a 4v swap tune on my 2v. It seems that 4v and 2v has the same strategy just the 4v stuff is turned off. I'm now doing my own tunes and see the 4v stuff. Also when I do data logging the IMRC shows up if you want to log it. See about finding a used X3 SCT unit and have a custom tune for it from 5 star tuning.
You will need a tuner so you can upload the stock tune and download the custom tune. A custom tune is just a modified stock tune to make the truck do what you want.
Wish I had cash to send it out working in an old barn type garage so holds no heat an had over a foot of snow drop in the last few to add to the cold... on top of that buddies that were going to help ended up bailing and I forgot about man and machines best friend RUST besides that I am still in the early stages of the swap still tring to take motor apart may need that little black box under the intake manifold I cracked mine and belive the 4.6 is diffrent... idk just real frustrated I got about 2 grand in this and can't keep dropping much more
where are you located? If you're close to some FTE boys, (especially this one), you might put a call out for help and you never know who might answer. That worked for me on a Mustang board once, and ended up making a couple of lifelong buddies in the process.
Ripped a lot out looks like I am 2 exhaust bolts and motor mounts away from half done... I have a biiig important question tho.... wtf with the engine harness I need it off of the fuse box toooo.... wtf allready does anyone know what of the harness I need just off the motor or all the wires under hoood ie computer to fuse box cause the 5.4 has a diff harness than my romeo 4.6 plz help asap and any locals wouldn't hurt I'm in snydersville pa
I used all the computer parts from the 4.6l on my 5.4l. Basically i had a 5.4l engine and a mixture of 4.6l and 5.4l accesories on the engine.
Grandaddy. whats the 1/4 mile on your old truck and your new one? Im running a 16 flat right now with my heavy *** mickeythompsons and a lot of wheel spin off the line.
Im hoping to run a 15.7 when i get new tires. Im just curious how fast your trucks are becasue the seem like a good benchmark
Im not sure what you mean by how much harness. But i didnt change a thing. It was teh complete stock 4.6l harness. I just bolted in the 5.4l engine, intake manifold. And used the 4.6l ignition system, exhaust manifolds, egr system and the intake snorkle that goes between the throttle body and intake manifold.
