it'll still work. We used nothing off the 4V Navi engine where a 4.6 2V once lived.

All of the wiring harness was retained from the truck itself - plug wires, sensors, ECU, MAF the works.

Burns, I've never had the trucks to the track, so I can't lay it down for ya like that.

I thought the 32V made 278 rwhp with a 98 Cobra air intake?

If that's the case, with a JLT type setup, 01+ lightning maf and a retune the 4V will probably lay down mid-high 290s.

that would ROCK!!

but yeah, our torque numbers are similar and he has about 25 HP on me now, so I'm figuring I might get my butt beat.

BUT he's going to put an STS Turbo on it sometime in the first quarter, so he'll be kickin a whole lot more @ss than just mine

IF it runs (probably not), it won't run well.

That black box is your plenum, and even if it does run (unlikely), that will be one nasty vacuum leak.

not likely, but I can't be sure. There's nothing that I know of that would make sense

I'm going to try to summarize my notes for two potential swaps. My current truck is an `01 F150 with the Romeo 2v 4.6 (with 0 compression in #3 )

Option 1: 2v 5.4:
2003-2004, spark plug problem fixed
Stock 4.6 harness will work
Needs some exhaust work, or get the 5.4 y-pipe
Keep stock ECU and get it tuned
-or, put in stock 5.4 2v ECU?
My Stock 4.6 transmission is a 4R70W - What does this equate to regarding the flex plate?

Option 2: 5.4 4v Intech:
What year to look for? 2001-2003?
It looks like the stock 4.6 harness will work?
-Or, get engine harness from Navi or blackwood?
Keep stock ECU but add an SCT tuner and have a 4v tune burnt
-Dyno time preferred, but not necessary since the tune has been established.
Exhaust work, or get the Navi Y-pipe
My Stock 4.6 transmission is a 4R70W - What does this equate to regarding the flex plate?
98 Cobra Intake will yield the most power

Grandaddy, others with experience, can you confrim that list and answer the few red questions please?

Thanks a bunch guys!!

On the InTech questions:
year is correct - late 2001-2003 had 4V
4.6 stock harness will work & get it tuned
Dyno time is paramount to get it right
custom exahust work (not much) will be necessary. A Navi Y-pipe may work, I can't be sure. We used the truck's but modified it
You will need the flexplate off of your truck's 4.6
There were not a lot of dyno runs performed with different air intakes. Quite frankly, we think power is available there.

Thanks for the fast reply Jason! Really appreciate your help

I am a firm believer in dyno tuning. On my 2.3 turbo Merkur XR4ti racecar we went from 215 to 254 whp at 13psi in just tuning alone!

if the 5.4l has a flex plate on it already use it. i did. My 5.4l flexplate hooked right up to my tranny with zero issues. I dont understand what every ones thinking is with haveing to swap flex plates.

Guys,

One more quick question (I'm replying here so you see it) - it actually relates to a 5.4 2v swap from a 4.6 2v. The 4v engines are just too pricey for me right now.

If I want to avoid tuning the engine, can I just get the ECU from the donor truck and use it? Do you know if it plugs into the 4.6 harness ok? Or, should I get the 5.4 harness too and swap that as well...?

I realize I won't be getting max power, but if the ECUs will swap over (I can get the ECU for free with the engine) that seems like the fastest way to get my truck back on the road. Save me the money of the SCT + dyno time too...

Thanks a ton,
Peter
