The Navi engine he used was a 2001 and his truck was a 99. Navigators as far as I know came with 4V 5.4's from 1999-2004, and any engine in that timeframe should work.
Between labor, tuning and engine price, get ready to spend at least $5K if you don't plan on doing any of it yourself. If you get down to the nut cuttin and have questions, PM me.
check this, pickup is a fuel truck with 500 lbs of diesel, chains, load binders, toolbox, etc. All in all, probably carrying close to 750 of payload.
An 04 6.0 PS 250 strolls up on US Hwy 259 outside of Henderson and gooses my brother, so they touch em off and the 150 walks. Maybe 3 lengths...
Anyway, turns out, this guy is one of Ken's contractors!! LOL!! so the guy calls Ken on his cell and said, "WHAT in the hell have you done to that truck?!?! I've NEVER been walked off from by a gasser!!!"
So Ken gives him the cliffs and he's like, "I gotta see this. Oooh, aaaah, cooooool. Now I don't feel so bad."
278 rwhp on the same dyno? Still all stock with just a Flowmaster and 98 Cobra air inlet?
My 4.6 has developed a little tick on #4 (guessing a piston skirt) and now I'm considering the 5.4 4V swap. I can score complete Navi engine with the harness from Greenleaf shipped to my door for $2100, the only thing missing are the alternator and other accessories (starter, PS pump).
Did Dallas Mustang ever go into what they had to do for the swap? If this swap is really plug-and-play (stock Navi harness into stock F150 chassis connector) I'm probably going to do the swap. A dyno tune is no problem for me.
With those tiny cams and and long runner intake it should be a torque monster in my little 4800 lb 2wd S'Crew.
The other kill was a Hemi 1500. Apparently, guy could tell from the exhaust note something was cookin so he decides to goose a little throttle Kenny's way at the light.
Ken gives him the 'nod' and at the greens, it's bombs away and time to clip some toenails with the fanblades! Those Hemis have some some serious snort down low, and with the 'GTF150' loaded for serious work detail (100 gallons of diesel, chains, tools and some dozer parts), the domehead gets the jump.
But the 5.4 DOHC has his OWN snort, so the jump is but a 1/2 to 3/4 truck. When those four bumpsticks start seeing some revs (redline's set at 6,800), they start lickin their chops for power, so by a flicker past the 1-2 shift, Ken's got 'im backin up.
Dead necks half way through 2nd, and by the time the 2-3 shift goes down, Ken's got him by a length and is pulling.
The final kink to work out of the tune is when the truck goes to 3rd, it immediately locks the converter. Great for mpg's, but when you want to launch rpg's at the enemy at WOT, it ain't so good.... so right around triple digits, the big Hemi catches up..
Good race - we're scoring it a kill
Think about the GTF150 EMPTY and boy howdy, we have an azzkickin on our hands, fellers!!!!!

stock as a rock save for the Flow, inlet and some gnarly tuning. But NO mods

That's not bad, and I think Greenleaf may have been where Ken got his. I'll check

Dood, I'm here to tell ya, the nuts and bolts mechanics of this deal can't be much more straightforward...some minor bumps (alternator, coolant lines, throttle cable location) but nothing a good wrench can't handle.
I'm tellin ya, we may be onto something here. I'm surprised it hasn't been done more...

I'm here to tell ya!! This one's making excess of 400 lbs tq at the crank with no mods. Think about the potential of modding something like that, and please don't get me started on the cams. I saw a set of GT500 cams the other day for $500ish for the set. Now I know those are ground for boost and make 'car power' and not 'truck power,' but can you imagine?? That would kick MAJOR arsehole. And power adders?! Unholy mother of mercy!

Nice kill, and with that much fuel on board yea the Hemi would have suffered a serious beat-down if the truck was empty.
What are this truck's shift points? 5500 rpm?

I've done the 4.6 4V swap in a Mustang, had to make more own engine harness such for it. If this swap is limited to throttle cable, alt and coolant hoses we're talking about a cake swap.

Yea, tons of potential to be had with the Navi engine.
Dallas Mustangs ended up using the F150 harness and ignition (you can see that in the pics in posts 36 and 37.
Bad, I'm not sure where the shift points were set, but it ain't stock and it's high
Bad, if you've done a 4V swap in a Stang, this will be a walk for you. Dallas Mustang had not done this particular swap before (tons of 4.6 4V's in Stangs, though) and they were surprised at how well everything fit and the lack of major issues. They ran out of steam on the dyno, and when Illinois Dyno Center in Port Byron, Illinois got ahold of it with (309-523-9200 shameless plug), they squeezed a LOT more power out of it with the Sniper tuning - they completely 'tore down' the ECM and 'rebuilt' it in about 4 hours, and found some vacuum leaks that was robbing the engine.
IDC uses a Land and Sea Dyno, they calibrate it daily and the O2 sniffer as well.
I know this dyno is accurate because I had my stock-as-a-rock Mach dyno'd there prior to any mods, and it put down 278/296 at the wheel, which translates to 320ish/350ish at the crank, which it just about right for a stock '03 Mach 1.
The tranny is the stock unit that was behind the original 4.6 - no problems, and when the truck got tuned, they changed some aspects of the tranny (shift points, shift pressure, etc.)
NICE!! I am doing the same swap this weekend - 04 navi motor into my 02 Expedition which has the 4.6/4r70w in it. I should be good on the transmission then at least for a little while.
I know i wouldnt race you, but i did swap my 5.4l for my 4.6l over a year ago and i know im making around 390ft lbs torque with my tuning... I love these motors..I know i wont be as quick as you, but im hoping to shut down a 5.3 chevy sometime....cant ever get one to race me....
It tows like a champ... tons of torque, and with my 4.6l torque converter... she launches hard... i dont care what truck im racing diesel or not i will either be ahead or tied for the first 50ft... it launches so damn hard its stupid..
Bill at power hungry performance did mine. He is the original designer of the Edge Evolution i believe. So he changed some codes around and made the computer understand...
