Burns, if you're in ames, I would recommend that you send it to Illinois Dyno Center in Port Byron. Right outside of the Quad Cities. I've ued them several times and have recommended them to several of my car buddies. They're good.

309-523-9200

Ask for Tom (owner) or Jesse (son and co-owner) and tell them Red Mustang Jason sent you. They'll take care of you...

those were shot by Dallas Mustang.

here are some I shot out at my brother's place after he got it back:

More pics and dyno numbers tomorrow. Here's what I can tell you at this late hour from memory: truck picked up 100 HP and about 70 lbs of torque on the wheel and it runs like a bat outta hell. the SOTP dyno was UNDENIABLE. I have a 2005 3V F150 with its 300/350 advertised and his truck would run off and hide from mine!

I'm proud for im!!

OK, girls. Here are the at-the-wheel on al Mustang Dyno before swap
4.6 base run 142HP/227TQ which translates roughly to 175HP/280ish TQ on the crank

After the swap, with the stock 4.6 tune in the computer
5.4 base run 190HP/290TQ - a nice jump to 235ish/360 on the crank, but not what we were looking for

After one tuning session on the dyno (more timing, less fuel, etc)
242HP/296TQ, which translates to about 302 HP/370TQ on the crank. We both believe that there is a little more in the tune and air delivery. (They ended up using a 1998 Cobra air inlet tube to a conical high flow air filter. We'd LOVE to see 250+ HP/310 TQ on the wheel. Maybe we can tune it in there.

But it runs well, doesn't stuggle for gears NEARLY as much as the old 4.6, and it sounds GREAT with a Flow 44 one in, two out muffler. WICKED!

Ya, i hear ya, i did basically the same thing, just never got it tuned, going to look in to the guy near davenport soon.

I must say that im a bit disapointed at the numbers though, i figured the at crank power would be much closer to what its factory rated at...

Nice swap though, time for some quartermile times....

Very nice! Looks like a good clean swap.

I can understand your excitement, I have the little brother to your truck. I stuffed a 4v 4.6 into a '98 Ranger. It seems to have helped the performance a little.

you went to a 5.4 2V, though, didn't you? I'm thinking the guys in Port Byron can help you for SURE!!! they kick the @ss

you and us both, burns. Ken (brother) and I thought we would get further past the stock crank numbers (300/350). I think (as does IDC) that we're losing some power in that 98 Cobra air intake - those things are fussy and that is an app for which it wasn't originally intended. Clocking in at 302/370 on the crank ain't too bad, but we think with some further dyno time we'll hit 330/380ish+ on the crank. So yeah, there's room for improvement.

Nice swap though, time for some quartermile times....
well, seeings how this is a diesel hauling fuel/work truck, it will probably never make it to the strip... LOL!

Greg, that's probably what I like about it the most - it looks COMPLETELY factory, and that's cool! Thanks!

242 rwhp on a Mustang dyno would be around 280-290 rwhp on a Dynojet, pretty close to a 5.7L Tundra and far more than 302 flywheel HP. Not bad for a Navi engine.
