just let it whine!! and get some exhaust to cover the sound!! haha no mine is annoying as hell especially in parking lots and crap but i dont think it is worth changing out with a quiet one since it works just fine, it would be different if they were known to fail though. its just a matter of how easily you get annoyed by it.
Quick Q for this thread, I want to do this conversion also. I can find a boatload of mid 80's E vans in my local yards, like 82-87 vans. All have the 5.0.

My 90 Bronco has the 5.8.
Will the 5.0 saginaw bracket work on my 5.8? TIA!
Hey, I converted mine this weekend (mine is an 88 F150 - applies to 87-91 trucks/broncs with 5.0 and 5.8). Found a late 80's E van with a 5.8 at my local pull-a-part, pulled the bracket and pump. I used a stock pressure line (had to tweak it just a bit, nothing major though) and a return line from a 92-96 F series with the towing package (mine was broken, and the later trucks LONG return line doubles as a cooler, and it was cheap). Had to drill out the holes on the A/C compressor a bit, since the vans use a different compressor with a 10mm bolt instead of a 8mm (used a 13/32 bit I think....). I could not get the thing to prime by hand, so I filler her up with type F ATF, rode around in the cul de sac for a minute, topped her off again, and away I went, no leaks, no noise, and better steering (at least it feels that way).
quick question, I want to swap out my PS pump and i know there are plenty of e-150 vans at the local yard but will it bolt right up to a '94 F-150 with a 4.9L 300 I6? Or what would i have to get a pump from to have it fit this application?

You should be able to do the swap with parts from a E series van with a 300. Since mine was a 5.8, I can't nail down all the parts that you would need, but I would assume that you would need the bracket, the pump, and swap the fitting out of your original pump to get you most of the way. Good luck!
I dont know...
Gettin rid of the noise is cutting out the character of the truck
its supposed to whine-Its a Ford power steering unit,...
On my '88 f150 lariat its a sign that October is comin.
-Its the only time I ever hear it.- Funny coincidence about that, -my truck left the assembly line in Oct "87.
Only thing I can do without is the little relief hole drilled into the cover- if the truck loses power, or- I try and steer the truck without it running- It squirts Power steering fluid out of the relief hole in the cap, and covers my Master cylinder area..
But, I dont think mine makes that much of a racket to replace..
