Whining Power Steering Fix!!!

I finally fixed the noisy piece of junk power steering pump in my 97 F250 HD 7.5L. The pump I used is the infamous saginaw conversion from any parts house, part# 20-6244. If you haven't heard of this pump before it is made by A1 Cardone to fix the noisy ford pumps and you can get it at any parts supplier that carries A1 Cardone parts. I got mine at Advance Auto Parts for $65. I used a new pressure hose from a '79 F250 and it was a simple bolt in replacement. This conversion does work and the pumps do exist!!!! Everyone should do this swap if you hate your noisy pump!!!!! It's EASY!!!!https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/dscn0725.jpg

Very nice! Some of the guys here have done it with Ford junkyard parts:

Alright you've got my attention. Assuming I can locate that pump, did you need anything else to perform the swap? I have a 1996 F250 HD 7.5L, so whatever worked for you should work for me. I just want to get it right the first time as my power steering sounds like CRAP. I work for an AutoZone company and bought a remanned PS pump already, but I can return it as I have not installed it. AutoZone carries Cardone, but when I looked up the part number in our new parts system, it was listed as not available. Partsamerica.com does carry it online for $85 plus the core.

All I used was the pump and a new pressure hose that fits a 1979 F250. I don't remember the part # and I threw the box away. The new hose DOESN'T look or fit EXACTLY like the original one but it is very close and it works. You may try searching for part# 206244 (without the dash) at Autozone. The swap only took me a couple of hours, it's EASY!!! You mentioned Partsamerica.com, I got mine at Advance Auto Parts, which is owned by partsamerica. I ordered it from the store, not online, and it arrived the next morning. They even took my old pump as a core, so I payed $65 for the new pump!

There is no Advance Auto within 500 miles of where I live, but Napa has the part. They ordered it for me. I'll take some pictures during the install and make it into a tech article.

I just keep mine serviced and it stays quiet. but if I ever have one go out I will consider that pump. but these thing seem to last forever with a occasional flush and oil change.

Andym are you doing this on your 89 with the 300?
If so, I'm anxiously awaiting your report. My 90 with the 300 sounds OH SO LOUD!!!
I have had people in parking lots stop and stare while cranking the steering around to get in or out of a spot.

Looks the same as mine, think it would fit my f-150....same thing.

fmr9, nope, this is going in the Bronco. The 89 is going up for sale as soon as I get around to replacing the transmission.

Did the Saginaw pumps come as OEM on any models? May want to look for one at the junk yard.

As far as I know the only Ford trucks with Saginaw pumps from the factory were some of the fullsize vans. I don't know year models though.

Alot of years vans had them according to a parts search I've done . Most recent conversions have been from 92-95 vans . Last one was 95 E150 van with 351 ,the guy bolted it right up to a 302 . But if you find one with 460 etc. Should be fine . You will need the mount ,pump and pressure hose form van .
I drain and refill pump every year and at around 125000 every one has got noisy. The Saginaw doesn't and likes big tires to.

My 89 E250 with a 300 has the Saginaw pump if that helps. It's just a base model work van.
