I find the noisy power steering on old Fords endearing... not sure if I'd want to get rid of it. Mine isn't overly noisy though, just a light whine when under load. Reminds me I'm in an old pickup!
amen on that!!! plus it tells me the darnd thing is still working!
I forget the brand, came in a blue tube. Any brand would work i'm sure, I put half a tube in a new pump and no noise and a whole tube in an old pump and the noise went away.
Thought I'd add a little update from what I JUST finished and test drove.
I bought a used unit from Thumper from a '92-'96 E series van w/ 5.0/ 5.8 (Bracket, pump, pulley). Installed without a hitch. I took the actual high pressure fitting off the back of my stock pump (as well as the sagi pump) then installed it in the back of the sagi pump. This enabled me to use the stock F-150 high pressure hose easy! A few real subtle bends by hand to line it up and threaded right in. Stock F-150 return hose went right on without having to do a single thing other than slide it on the sagi return bib. I used an '95 E series (w/ 5.0) serp belt (O'rielly part #K060994 Gates brand under $30). This is 1/4" longer than an F-150 belt. Fit like a charm. Jacked up the front end and went lock to lock 10 times with engine OFF to purge the air. Fired it up and test drove. Quiet as a mouse w/ 1 finger steering on a USED pump & not a single drop of fluid leaking! I'll update with a few pics as soon as my kids give me a break (babysitting duty right now)...
I tried to load them in order but they're self explanitory:
Stock pump and bracket
Sagi pump & van bracket
All buttoned up w/ van serp belt, I did need to bend the lower A/C hose in order to get to the cap on the p/s pump res. Was easy enough to massage by hand as well.
Need to service it anyway as I have no idea what the PO has done. I take it the frams are a no no? I run the napa Golds myself but just haven't gotten to this one yet.
No, the filter element is glued to the cap of the can, if the glue fails you get pieces of that in the oil gallery, probably leading to a engine failure, they have no by-pass valve neither. Get the Motorcraft filter (FL-1A), it's actually one of the best ones ($3.50 at Summit).

Please help will the saginaw pump part # 20-6244 work for my 2004 mustang from the image the mounting bracket is the same thankx im so sick of the whine
I finally fixed the noisy piece of junk power steering pump in my 97 F250 HD 7.5L. The pump I used is the infamous saginaw conversion from any parts house, part# 20-6244. If you haven't heard of this pump before it is made by A1 Cardone to fix the noisy ford pumps and you can get it at any parts supplier that carries A1 Cardone parts. I got mine at Advance Auto Parts for $65. I used a new pressure hose from a '79 F250 and it was a simple bolt in replacement. This conversion does work and the pumps do exist!!!! Everyone should do this swap if you hate your noisy pump!!!!! It's EASY!!!!
