Whining Power Steering Fix!!!
#92
will this work on a 4.9L I6?
Yes this will work for a 4.9
What you are asking about is actually two options.
If you go the junkyard route, you need the pump, pulley, pressure line, bracket off an4.9, and possibly a new different size belt.
If you go the Caldone pump route, you only need the pump and the pressure line. You reuse your pulley, bracket, and belt.
From a recent thread, it looks like the costs are close, but using the new pump gets you a rebuilt pump that should last the life of the truck.
if I do this, I'll probably shop for price and use the Caldone pump, rather than take a chance on a high mileage junkyard pump.
Good Luck Frank

I wouldn't bother going the used van parts route. If you buy the proper Saginaw pump it is a direct bolt up. The pressure hose you need is off a 78' Bronco. They are sometimes hard to come by. I have an extra hose from Napa if you need one. I'll sell it at cost.

Yes I think so. Most people say 78-78 F-250 on the forum.

So what fluid are you supposed to use? Ive read that some say atf type 4 and others say power steering fluid? Which is correct?

I used Type F ATF, because that is what the manual said.
