hi all, temps in colorado been over 100* every day for a week and my a/c is on the friz. Even after rechargein the system my compresser clutch only engages for a second or 2 and then disengages for 2-3 min. I tapped on it with a plastic handle which did engage the clutch for a moment and then quit. I checked the air gap and got .060 now my problem is getting that little bolt out. How do I hold the clutch firm while turning that bolt?
Thanks springerpop, my problem is that the clutch wont stay engaged for any amount of time. Any other ideas?
Hi Kingdar,
If you are referring to turning “the ignition switch to "On" (not "Start"), and the air conditioning also to "On". This pulls in the clutch so that the serpentine belt holds it all from turning.” I used a large set of pliers to hold the clutch plate snug while removing the bolt. It didn’t require much effort to get it loose.
I would check the pigtails on.the high pressure side or low pressure side. Sometimes the go bad. Shake the wiring right at the pigtail and see what the clutch.does. when i.did that. It would engage and I let go it would disengage. U can get the pigtails from Ford. Easy fix
My ac blows warm while idling.
My compressor seems to engage and disengage as normal.
I removed the only shime i had behind the clutch plate.
It seems like it works a little better, but still blows hot after idling for a min or two.
I checked the freon level and it at 55psi and it roughly 100 degrees outside.
Checked electrical connections on compressor and nothing seems loose.
The air blows about 85 degrees which isnt even cold, then the compressor will all of a sudden disengage
and start blowing heat.
the temp will get to 97 or so then ac will kick back in and cool down to roughly 88 then start blowing heat again.
It steadly does this every min or 2.
It is a 2002 7.3 f250
Please help i dont have the funds to spend at the dealer.
Thanks Greg
You probably have two problems, one which is aggravating the other.
First, it sounds like your temperature blend door is not operating correctly. You can check this by operating the temp control in vent mode and seeing if the outlet air is changing from around ambient to really, really hot.
The other problem sounds like the clutch is cycling due to the high pressure cutout switch instead of the low pressure switch. This is vary serious and is usually indicative of a blocked condenser or some similar problem on the high pressure side. You really need to have both high and low pressure readings to properly identify and diagnose this type of problem.
The ac on my truck is great its ice cold......but it will only come out up next to the windshield ......the same goes for the heat...it works fine but will only come out up next to the windshield......any ideas on how to fix this ?
