The ac on my truck is great its ice cold......but it will only come out up next to the windshield ......the same goes for the heat...it works fine but will only come out up next to the windshield......any ideas on how to fix this ?
That is caused by a vacuum leak. The blend doors under the dash are vacuum operated. When there is not enough vacuum, defrost is the default setting. Your symptom is a classic vacuum leak.
If you have 4WD with ESOF, usually the leak will be found in that system. But it could be other places too. Or could even be a bad vacuum pump if your truck is a diesel.
I have an 05 6L. The compressor motor is a little more difficult to access than the earlier models. Has anyone fixed the air gap on a 6L and had success?
Benden, have you fixed your air gap issue yet? I need to measure/adjust the gap on mine, I believe I'm having the issue also. Doesn't look as easy as the gas motors.
Yeah, the 6.0 is mounted at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side. Not that easy to get to and I did not want to attack it unless someone else has tried and succeded.
Benden, for grins, I called a local shop and asked what they charge to pull the clutch plate and remove the spacer. They do it for 1/2 hour labor $45 and don't have to remove rad. fan etc.

No it's tough to get to. Been waiting to find out if it is the same on the 6L. I'll dive in if it is the same fix.
I did it and got no help from the shim being removed, and yes it was a pain in the a.., Iwound up cutting some of the shroud away w/ my sawzall, I love my truck, but the engine compartment on my 06 6.0 is about a joke. very annoying.
Update on my clutch plate issue. Come to find out, the bolt that holds the clutch plate on had fallen out. I got lucky that the plate stayed attached to the compressor.
Use (just a bit of) blue LocTite and that won't happen.

First off this is a terrific forum and great information.
We have a 2002 F-250 crew cab regular gas engine.
{While on a trip to Colorado this little bolt obviously did not have any loctite on it ! The Clutch plate flew off and rolled down the side of the mountain.
We were stuck with visiting the ford dealer in grand junction (not recommended) they charged us $100. to look at it. We had to sign a paper before they would even check it out. (never encountered anything like this with a ford dealer ever before) Next day they wanted $500 to fix it. We knew the part was less than $100 bucks. they didnt have the part (clutch plate) we found it at autozone and offered to supply the part but they were uncooperative. We decided to drive home (800 miles ) without AC. }
(We have never had any trouble with the AC and it blows cold in 100+ degree weather.)
the dealer told us that was risky ... hmm
now to the problem (sorry for all the story)
Got a new clutch plate and installed it with shims and gap but it will not come on. checked the voltage to the a/c coil and no power...
Where do i look for the problem . The fuse is good. Starting to wonder if the dealer disabled something!
