You know I'm sharpening my axe right now! How many times do I have to respond to a female? A man tells you one time, you should get it. Even mt Lab knows better!

The dog only listens to you because he's not as intelligent. I, however, being of superior intellect and able to integrate more than just e to the x (without a calculator), don't have to listen to you.

You know better than most that e to the x is a superfluous argument and if you really wanted to make me look bad you would have used something from Simpsons Rule.
But have you done much work with multivariable integrations or partial derivatives? Oh, those lovely LaGrange Multipliers! Hhhmmm...
Multivariable integrations and partial derivatives yes. LaGrange Multipliers no... but ask emmyndex cause she could actually help you. Now when you need help with programming something or breaking down code then call me.
LOL, actually, I'm a math prof! My field was really stats though and my thesis was in logistic analysis. Are you a fellow math geek???
I am almost afraid to say it out loud, but yeah, I am! I just started Diffy Q's this term... So, maybe if I get stuck, I can start a Calculus thread and you can give me a push!? It's always nice to have as many resources as possible when looking for clarification about new math concepts!

I love it! That would be fun, I mean teaching for 3 different schools already just doesn't give me a chance to do any math at all...lol...jk, I love helping with math stuff. Although JR can tell you that on the math I helped him with I did get one wrong...but I maintain he just wrote down the wrong thing, not that I made a mistake because I NEVER do that!

Have you experienced that once you mention that you are a math geek people will look at you like they suddenly noticed that you have a second nose on your forehead? And you always hear "I hated math in school".
so what you are saying is that when my nephew and niece have questions about their math homework, I should pop on here and ask you guys? and what is the difference between the "new math" and the "old math"? besides the terminology?
and what is the difference between the "new math" and the "old math"? besides the terminology?
New math is what the gov uses to justify giving themselves raises and raising taxes. Also what companies use to pay figurehead ceo's millions.
Enron was a fan of new math-

'New Math' is a way of confusing parents, so we do not even think about questioning why our children can't do basic math without a calculator, or read a tape measure.
Actually you guys learned new math and don't even realize it. Anyone under the age of 55 definitely learned new math. New math was brought out to understand the basic concept of arithmetic instead of just learning algorithms. New math is really a system of borrowing and place value. Get ahold of Tom Lehrer's song "New Math".
Pun, it's not only funny, it "sums" it all up.

Yeah, actually, I have! You too by the sounds of it... I have always thought that math ends with Calculus. Little did I know that Calculus is where math really starts! It’s where it all comes together and you get to see the “beauty” in it. It’s kinda funny though, I’m starting my 10th math class and haven’t even left the seventeenth century! This may be new to me, but it’s really old stuff. I guess it’s because they didn’t have TV or Internet back then…
so what you are saying is that when my nephew and niece have questions about their math homework, I should pop on here and ask you guys? and what is the difference between the "new math" and the "old math"? besides the terminology?
Old math, the math you know is “base ten” math. New math was “base eight”. They did that so we would concentrate on the concepts of math and not get hung up on just finding the answers. The actual answer to 10 + 2 = ? is not as important as HOW you got the answer. Most schools don’t use base eight anymore, it just created too much confusion with parents who were trying to help their kids.
And yeah, if you have math questions, pop ‘em over. I’m sure someone will be able to help out!
