just got the update on this 05. lost 5 mpg and a boat load of power, tech says ford aware of their "mistake" and will be??? issueing another re-flash and update if enough customers voice their "concerns" i suggest gettin the sensor only... and not taking the reflash as the turbo limit itself is a pain. last reflash it was limited to 20 lbs, this one is supposedly letting it ride to 24 lbs.. mine still won`t get past the 21 mark... make up your own minds where this re-call is concerned.

I am up here in BC, Canada. I just got these two recall notices today in the mail. What is the verdict on whether I should do it? I am running 14 - 15 mpg city, 18.5 mpg at 70 mph over 700 mile trip with winter fuel for -30 Celsius, that. I have got as high as 21 mpg on summer fuel, not quite as much time at 70 mph, more at 65 mph. I have had no rough idle, starting or CEL light, trany issues ect, I am thinking of not doing these and just waiting to see if I get any problems. She's just runnin to good to mess with it.... I have not discussed with dealer, but perhaps on oil change they could just change the sensor and not flash it?

mhoefer,
I'm in the same boat. Mine is running great, and I figure, if it aint broke don't fix it.
On my notice, I read that it needs to go in by 2008 so I am going to wait. Once you get the flash, you can't go back.
As long as I get mixed feed back on this thread, I will continue to wait. I hope that those who have complained of performance issues will check back in if they do in fact find that it was re-learning strategy, and temporary. Good info to help with a decision.

^ You will have to take your truck in at least one time for repair before 08 and that is when they will get you. lol

As I recall, the notice that I received, stated that failure to get the emissions recall done by 08 "could" result in denial of emissions warranty repairs in the future. Take it for what it's worth. I'll wait for a while and see.

Take my truck? LOL. Now the State of California,,,,, maybe a fine down the road after 08 or a hefty repair bill prior to registration ??? I dunno....

The letter also state that the states may not allow the vehicle to be registered until the recall is complete.

I had mine done about two weeks ago. It seems to start and idle smoother when it's real cold outside. I don't plug mine in at night and it's been down to 10 degrees several nights. Start it up at 3:30 am and it goes smooth. I was also getting a foul exhaust smell before when it was cold. I've had it in twice for that. Don't notice that smell now. Haven't noticed any negative effects .......yet.

recall legal ?

I have read in this thread that this recall is good till 2008. My letter doesn't say anything about a date but does say that I may have problems when I have to renew my registration. The licensing dept. here in TX is very well conected to Ford Motor Co.. I had AR. plates and when I transfered I got TX a registration. I gave no forwarding address to Ford, never had service done by anybody, so by receiving this recall letter I know that the DMV is sharing information about me and my truck. SO can they????
Can they keep us from renewing our plates if we don't do the recall ?
Keep in mind that the EPA is involved.

Wb6ANP : I just saw your post, you beat me to it. I type to slow

I cali they can since it is emisions related. But remeber that california usually sets the standard for the rest of the country we don't call the socialist state of Kalifornia for nothing. And I wonder if the vehicles are talking FOMCO when both my vehicles turned 15000 MI I got a letter from ford saying it was time for their 15000 Mi service.

I think I have DEFINATELY noticed this one too. Is this the smell that might resemble a sweatty arm pit or a football team locker room? That might be enough for me to go RUNNING to Ford for this recall, to get rid of that obnoxious odor.

Got the truck back

I took my truck in this morning and the dealer called just before noon and said it was ready. It just turned over 18,000 miles and so far no problems except for annoying check engine lights. Maybe this re-flash will fix the bug indicating there is a problem with remote start. The truck does not have remote start.

I'll pay attention to how it sounds, drives, etc and report back later.
When I picked up the truck the engine sounded a little different when idling. I have gone through one fillup and the mileage seems a bit better. Last fillup I got 15.7 MPG which is an increase of about 1 MPG over the previous best. Engine still seems to have the same power but up shifts are held off a little longer (higher RPMs under light load) unless you put your foot in it.

Truck is absolutely fantastic. I can't believe anyone would by something other than a Ford.

Yep, that locker room smell is the one I was getting. Seems to be gone now. I've had the truck 7 months and only have about 5000 miles on it. I've read on other sites that these engines can give off this smell for the first 5000 miles so it could be coincidence.

Mine has 26000 miles and, last time I checked, still has that smell when very cold and warming up in the early hours of the AM. Just what I need with my coffee. It does transition into more of a real diesel smell though after warming up. Thank God. That one I kinda like.
There is also the skunk smell that I used to get on the interior, I think from the climate control system. That one did clear up prolly within the first 5000. I'll have to go sniff my exhaust next time I'm warming up for work. Just to check your 5000 mile theory.
Thanks
