Ford response "that is how we want it to work now" That is not why I bought the truck! I bought the $50 grand truck because I liked how it was we when I bought it, not now, so give me my money back, since you took my truck away!
I understand your feeling. And to be sure!, I am not happy either as I tow near the 20,000# GCWR of the truck and liked the 4th gear lockup to keep tranny temperatures down. Also to provide additional braking.
Loss of HP I am putting down 212HP at the rear instead of 240-250HP on this dyno.
Loss of boost pressure @ up shift. I was looseing 9lbs of boost pressure right before up shift!
Loss of peak boost. Stock was 24lbs, after 1st reflash it was 20lbs.
Still have black smoke at cold start up, even after 2nd reflash.
To soft of tranny shifts.
I took it back in and they said there was a new flash out already. 8 days later and a NEW flash out???
Now I still have to soft up shifts.
Tow Haul seems to be better... haven't pulled my 30fter yet still to cold.
Doesn't feel as strong HP wise at full throttle with up shifts.
I am peaking boost pressure now around 27lbs with small 14ft quad trailer.
I did not dyno again as I am getting my quads ready for the up coming spring/ summer season.
At cold start up it is louder then before with the stock factory flash, but going down the road now seems quieter.
They asked me if I had a chip in it, becuase my truck did not take "all" of the flash. They said that happens with a truck that has had a tuner installed. I can not comment 100% for sure about that or if they were just trying to scare me. This new flash has seemed to give me 1 more mpg, as I was around 13-13.5 around town (6500ft) and now seem to be around 14-14.5mpg.
I know if I go spend another $45 to dyno it and it puts out 213HP I am going to flip my top! So for the sake of my health I have put it off.
One more negative thing I have noticed is that I now have a flareup during the 2-3 shift under heavy acceleration. The RPMs go up about 500 for almost a full second before 3rd gear engages. This can't be good for the tranny.
No, that will not do the tranny any good to the clutches and will create heat. I've heard a rumor that Toyota is working on something bigger than the Tundra (like F-250/350 sized) with diesel. I will at least look at them if/when they come out.
I dont know 99FordGuy, most of the "imports" have more parts assembled and made in the US than our favorite Ford, Chevy, Dodge....
If they get a truck of the same interior size, drop a GOOD diesel engine in it, and tack on a 150,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty, i can almost gaurantee that in a couple of years YOU wont have a choice about buying one if you want a heavy duty truck.
Im not saying i want one, but the foreign guys have always had the jump on US. Ford, Chevy, Dodge put new 'features' in that the foreign guys have been putting in for years....its all about innovation. If they come out with something, it will be like the first time neaderthal and homo sapiens met...just a matter of time till the old is phased out.

It will SURELY mark the beginning of the end for the Big Three.....
People have been saying this since the late seventies when the imports started making major inroads into the U.S. market. The U.A.W. has done more to kill the U.S. auto manufacturing business than anything the foreign competition has done. When nearly $2000-3000 per vehicle is tied to employee pension and benefits, and when the barely high school educated career assembly line worker makes nearly $50 per hour plus benefits for assembling cars, and 66% of that amount when laid off, THAT is why the big TWO, GM and Ford (Diamler/Chrysler is foreign owned) are on the ropes. Management shares in the blame for caving in to labor demands and shaving costs to stay competitive, but high labor costs are the root problem. That great sucking sound of American auto assembly jobs to Mexico, and the new auto assembly plants of the foreign automakers being built and operated in the Southern U.S. by non-union assembly workers, holds testament to this. Unions in the auto industry, as well as the other industries in the early part of the industrial age were were needed. But "sticking it to the company" at contract negotiation time over and over again has finally killed the goose that lays the golden eggs.

just had reflash done 0n 05.f350, dually 4.10, diesel, when new in feb 05, got 17.9 very first tankful driving around town in denver,CO. now with SCT flash tuner installed in just ecomomy mode.70 hp ...try 20.3 not bad for 410 gears and at altitude, after reflash didnt notice much difference, better shifting, but still runs GREAT"""""
It veered left many postings ago. I merely responded to the MANY postings about how Toyota et al will consume Ford. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.
To bring the thread back on topic, my latest report, fuel economy combined city/highway 17.5. Highest observed boost estimated 23 psi. Smoother shifting. Now has the "get up and go" that was lacking when the re-flash was first done. There's about 1200 miles on the truck post flash combination city and highway driving. I'm fairly pleased. Fuel economy is better. If this solves a durability issue and keeps this truck running for years, I'm okay with it. I bought it to tow a boat and trailer, and a travel trailer, and to haul the family. I didn't buy a hot rod. If I want a sports car, I'll get another VW.
Just wanted to bring everyone up to date....After recall o5E15 as stated in my previous post....Less power, smoking again, fuel mileage decrease, and very strong deisel smell out of exhaust while idling.
Awhile back i bought a tool called ScanGauge,,It plugs into the diagnostic port and reads various sensors in both deisel and gas vehicles....I was looking especially at the water temperature after this last reacall..I noticed that it was taking over an hour to fully warm up..or not...fully warm up..We had a few cold days last week..At 19 degrees outside temp..my water temps would be 143....at 29 degrees 163...I always thought the thermostat regulated that....
I called the service manager at my dealer and complaind again about this and my new water temp issue. He mentioned to me there was a bulletin posted on their ford dealer website about some kind of update to recall o5e15...So i dropped it off last monday morning.....They said they would have to keep it overnight so they can do a cold soak test...cold soak??? i asked....keep it outside overnight so engine temps are the same as outside air temps...LOL
I picked the truck up yesterday afternoon....Spoke to the service manager and this is what he said.............He said he called ford's service hotline and explained all the problems to them..... The ford service hotline rep said you could try putting the old program back in and see if that changes the situation....My dealer told me before they updated the computer from the last recall they save the last flash so they were able to remove it and then re-install the older program...
I drove it from the dealer to my home yesterday....I'll really need to put some miles on it to see if theres any change..One thing i did notice is the water temps at 41 degrees were at 191....I'll keep everyone posted
Let's try not to type in bold..Appearence of yelling. Thanks.
Your information is very interesting. For years we have been told by dealers and Ford that they could not (or would not) restore previous programming once flashed with updates. So now, the dealer is telling you that Ford said to do exactly that and has preformed that action.
rray...so there is an updated flash on top of the recall flash? This is why I have not taken my truck in yet for the recall. I believe I will have to in July to get my tags reknewed (California you know), but I am waiting until then..
