Did my recall Friday 2/10. I previously had a reflash 11/21/05 to fix sporadic very rough idle. It mostly fixed the idle, my mpg remained terrible. (10-11mpg empty....6-8 towing 8K pounds)
The new exhaust pressure sensor is a different part number than the old one. EPA made Ford do the recall because the old sensor could fail and violate emissions and NOT illuminate the check engine light. This is a federal crime, believe it or not.
Also, EPA has had problems with companies making it difficult for people to schedule emissions recalls, so EPA made Ford offer loaner vehicles, and include phone numbers to call if you have trouble getting the work done.
Normally, I have to wait 3-4 days to schedule warranty work at my dealer. This recall, it was..."bring it over whenever you want, we'll do it right away" So it would appear Ford is under some pressure from the Feds.
Also, they put a big sticker under the hood listing the "recal mods" code number, date, and that it met CARB and EPA standards.
Today is my first day to really drive it with the new sensor. I noticed exactly what someone else noticed. No real difference in power in town, but it definitely is faster on the highway. It doesn't stink nearly as bad when idling. It used to produce a really sharp stink while idling, it would burn your eyes. I don't smell it all now, so something changed on emissions.
For me, I don't see how my mileage could get worse. If it does, then I'll be moving back to gas engines. My fingers are crossed.
I didn't get a sticker... The only "sticker" I got was on the coolant degas bottle that recalibrates it. I get a kick out of the wording "ignore marks on bottle, use this guide instead" OOPS!
Recall completed without difficulties. Haven't had it on the road much since then but the truck seems to be running well. It does seem a bit noisier at idle and low RPM. Didn't know if it was just my imagination or not but it seems others have noticed the same.
I was having horrible cold running and starting problems,(warmed up slower than normal but then would run perfect) and I live in Phoenix, coldest it ever gets is 50 degrees. I thought the recall sounded exactly what I was expierencing. Took it in, and a day later told me I had multiple bad injectors, replaced 4 of them under stock warranty, with $100 deductable.
After recall and new injectors truck runs and starts good again, but I think I have lost just a little power and milage (pull a 8K trailer thru the mountains).
I average 11 mpg with trailer (9mpg up hill and 13mpg down).
Took my 05 F350 in last week for 05E15, oil change, fuel filter change at 20K. Based only on 1/2 tank of fuel and the Lie-O-Meter, I experienced a 2 mpg loss, no matter how slow or easy I drive. I have not hand calculated yet. I haven't noticed any other changes at all. Color me silly, but I can not understand how losing 2 mpg (going from in-town 14.5 to 12.5 mpg) could be good for emissions. If this trend continues, over the next 100K miles I'll burn through an additional 1100 gallons of diesel!
I think the recall notice stated that the work could be done through 2008 or so. In retrospect, I should have waited or not done it at all.
Not long enough. It will take about another 300-400 miles or so until things start to improve. Again, drive it like you stole it and don't baby it. It seems to make the beast adapt to the new programming faster. Remember that this recall was similar to giving our truck's computer a brain injury. It has to learn how to do things and adapt to our driving style ALL OVER AGAIN! Remember how crappy the fuel economy was when you FIRST got the truck, but it slowly came up? Same thing.

I too have recieved a recall notice. I don't see any reason to take it in as my 05 F250 CC, LB, 4x4, 6.0 runs perfect. I just came back from a round trip from KY. to CA and back to KY. I had a fiberglass tonneau cover on for the trip. I had a complete 428 engine and some parts and alot of misc. things under the cover on the way back. At 80 mph I averaged 19.2. Going out there I stopped in Dallas and rented a 2 wheel car dolly and towed a 67 mustang at 75 to Fresno. I got 15.68 with the car. The only thing I changed was to add a K&N filter charger. I think I'll wait awhile and see how it goes with some of you other guys. In the moutains it got down to 9 degree's and started and ran up hill, down hill, cold or hot it ran fine. The truck is 13 1/2 months old and has 27,xxx. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Never argue with an idiot. He'll just drag you down to his level and beat you with experience!
My dealership service dept. agreed to do the recall without doing the flash. So last Friday I took it in and they replaced the connector and EBP sensor and left the computer alone!
I like my truck the way it is and they are happy to accomodate me. Actually, they told me they had done that ( Recall minus the flash ) for several people including one of the service writers at the dealership...
I had mine done a couple of weeks ago and I can't see any difference at all. Was hoping the milage would increase. Have not taken a long trip yet. Will see.
On a different note... a friend of mine bought an '05 350 xlt right after I did and when he went into get his recall done (same dealer) and his wife complained of a turbo noise...(turbo fart) and now the dealer is going to replace their turbo!! It's going to do the same thing afterwards. Unless the dealer detunes his truck so it doesn't make boost as quickly.
I still do not have enough miles, key on/off cycles yet to determine is I am still looseing boost pressure before up shift. It is VERY noisy now at idle when cold. VERY LOUD I will be on the dyno mid week and I will see if I am makeing more or less HP.
I believe my truck has developed "Turbo Fart" after the recall. I am not sure exactly what this sounds like but the noise I am hearing does resemble one. real annoying.
Got this done today......first time I tromped on it....cough, cough, belch black/blue smoke!! Then one more cough, and away it went. We'll see how it goes.
Well, I have actually been getting to drive my truck a bit this last week since the re-flash was done. I have a CA model, and as much as I hate to admit...it is actually running quite a bit better.
I had a small burp before when first put in reverse, and that is now gone, and the overall drivability is much better. It seems to have a good deal more low end pep...and if there is a slight drop on the max boost level, I cannot tell. In fact, I feel that this latest flash has made a great improvement on an already great truck.
I have not yet measured the mileage change, but I honestly do not keep too close of tabs on that anyway, as with the 38" tires and 8" lift...my mileage is not very representative to most other 6.0's. It has not seemed to drop dramatically, though.
I will be taking a Glamis trip here soon, and I'll report on the mileage and the towing after that...
At this point, I highly recommend this flash for the CA trucks....
2005 F-350 4x4 CrewCab w/ Manual Tranny, and 12,150 miles.
I had the recall work done today, and I am very happy to report that my "surging at low speeds" seems to have been cured - FINALLY!! I asked to have the exhaust pressure sensor checked out last summer, after being in the shop 4 times. They could not duplicate symptoms, and said nothing was wrong, way back then. So, maybe it was the new sensor, or maybe it was the re-flash, but whatever it is, I am SO GLAD IT'S FIXED!!!!! We'll see next month if it is fixed when towing, too.
It's too soon to report on any fuel consumption changes, since all I did was drive home 10 miles after picking it up, but I do think it's idling a little bit louder than before. I was stuck in traffic so heavy that I didn't get to check out any acceleration/boost changes, so I'll test that tomorrow.
But, for now, I'm happy with the instant results... hope it lasts .
