Guess I'm one of the newer members of the "night shift". Started last Sunday. Work 11pm-8am CST.
Welcome, we only visit this on the nights, kind of wierd but it's what we do. What do you do out there in OK land? I work in a power plant here and work 2300-0700 starting for the Sun. morning shift and ending on Thurs. at 0700. How long have you been on nights?
It takes a little bit but you will be surprised at how quick you will catch on to a time to sleep. For me I was always up at the crack of dawn and to bed around 10 pm, I am a busy person by day so I usually stay up when I get off work and go to bed around 2 pm or so. On Thrusdays though I don't go back in that night so I stay up till about 10 pm and go to bed (been up since 10 pm the night before) and I don't have a problem sleeping. My first night in though is always the toughest, I cannot sleep if I'm not tired and on Sat nights I can't sleep before I go in so Sunday mornings at 0700 when I leave here I've been up since usually 0600 the day before, then I go to church and get home and if I don't go quail huntig with dad after church I go to bed about noon or so, otherwise it could be 3 or 4 pm. Luckily I'm 24 years old and can operate on little sleep at times.
I used to go to bed as soon as i got home, then harvest season came around, then quail season, then this and then that so I am usaully up through the day, but if I plan something on some night then I'll adjust my sleep for that week. Generally when I pick a sleep schedule I stick to it for the week, not changing every other day or so. It's hell enough the way I do it now.
Not too bad Drew. You need a job, I need a girlfriend. I guess we all need something, I'll wait on the gf thing till after quail season, or at least till after Christmas.
I would start dating teh gal that cuts my hair but then I'd have to do the christmas shopping for her, I won't see her again till after Christams so then I'll probably, well lets just leave it at that.
Ahh... to be young again. I'm 38, so I gotta get my beauty rest.
I try to go to bed right after work so I can spend the evening with my wife after she gets off work. Was doing good until Friday when I stayed up during the morning and went to the farm show then slept Friday night. Then, Saturday was out all day again. Funny how those couple of days of "regular" hours toasted my body's adjustment to nights.
The job is OK. Hardest part is that I have to sit & watch the computer for a problem announcement. Response times are expected to be immediate, so there's no getting up & doing anything to occupy the time. When the sytems are running good, it makes for some 'long' nights. But heck, where else can I get paid to surf the 'net?
i been doin pretty good. We went over to forth worth to Billy Bob's and say the Wolf 12 man jam. Mark Chessnutt, Stoney LaRue, Bleu Edmondson, Josh Gracin, Billy Currington, Wade Bowen, Kevin Fowler, Andy Griggs, Dierks Bentley, Gary P Nunn, Lost Trailers, Randy Rogers. Pretty goood show for being free.

NoMo, your job sounds alot like mine. I work in a power plant on a university campus and we control and monitor all the big mechanical equipment from our office. Though i am in a power plant, our office doesn't produce power, the plant produces steam which controls several big systems and turbines in different areas and we also monitor, maintain and control all the fire alarm equipment around campus. We are also the 24 hour call in for maintenance requests and other stuff so our office has alot of duties but usually during the midnights it is very quiet, days are a different story, they have to be double covered and could/should be triple covered at times.
