mine wont be that much. thats the flow rate of the biggest nozzle i have. and its rated at 80psi. my pump is 80 psi, but its pushin into 30psi so it acts like 50psi

and my fuel cell is 16 gallon w/ a level indicator

the boost pipe coming up to the intake is where im going to put mine, cuz if i ever have a problem, i can just throw in a new pipe.

correct me if im wrong, but i think the kits have a spray-bar plate for the intake elbow.

u thinkin about buildin one tim?

NO, however I am deeply curious about the engineering aspects of this.
I want to know everything about it.

No... I have done allot of work on the air filter side, (gallery) and still contemplating a cat back, did shocks, sway bar, Firestone bags.
I bought it for one thing, to pull with. The only time it hits the road there is my trailer behind it and no less than a 1k trip.

You can actually spray it anywhere from the air cleaner to the intake manifold.

Some kits spray in the inlet tube jast before the turbo. This location on the negative pressure side allows you to pressureize the tank with boost pressure to power the spray. No Pump!

The pump must be used if you spray after the turbo. Then, probably the best place would be a plate added between the intake elbow and the manifold. The pumps effective pressure is it's rated pressure minus the turbo boost pressure at the point the water is being injected. This means that if you have a 60 lb pump, 30 pounds of boost, your effective spray pressure would be 30 lbs. The problem with this type of system is as the boost pressure rises, your spray will become less.

In the early days of supercharging/turbocharging carburated engines, we overcame this by indexing the fuel pump by screwing a hose fitting into the vent hole in the pump and attaching the pump with a hose to the intake manifold. This kept the fuel pressure constant despite the boost.

I think we can do the same thing by running a small boost line to the water tank. I've not thought through completely despite all the help I've had from BigHoss550. I've just been too busy lately.

Water Injection Parts

Hi guys, i'm new here but have been reading this section with great interest. I have built many race engines that used nitrous so all of this makes perfect sense to me. The question I have is this, what components are needed to make a good water injection system. I understand a good high pressure pump, a resevoir, an injection nozzle. Is there more to it than that? If this is all, do you just set it so that at "x" psi the hobbs switch will turn on the pump and away you go? Next thing is, where do you get the nozzle and the high pressure pump, it is not a fuel pump is it? For the nozzle I was thinking of using one off a snow making machine? Thanks for the input.

Hey, thanks a lot for the info. One thing on the nozzle though, after thinking about it for a second, I need to find a different nozzle b/c the snow machine nozzle shoots straight out, not on a 90 deg to the main body, where do you get a nozzle, from a powerwasher?

I'm still working on mine. I have a NOS Fogger nozzle with a .030 Jet.
any nitrous spray bar might also work. Here are a couple of good web pages I got from BigHoss550 who is our resident expert.

http://waterinjection.info/
a great home made system that I intend to duplicate. I already have the pump, nozzle, hobbs switch. I'm trying to find one of the 2 gallon race fuel cells.

Also a book, Turbochargers by Hugh Maclnnes published by HP Books
I ordered mine form Amazon.com. The book has chapters on diesels and water injection.
Just remember that diesels work very differently than gas engines. The danger comes with a rich mixture rather than lean.

I have considered using an nos fan spray nozzle, as it is inexpensive and utilizes nos jets, however, nos operates at pressures around 900-1000 psi whereas we are only working with 50-60 psi. Have you sprayed water through the fogger nozzle yet in the open air to see how well it atomizes? This is a great site with many helpful people, thanks.
