Well after a little research I found out that the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine in the 2014 King Ranch has 302 hp. That is 2 more than my 5.4-liter V8. Twin turbos, half the displacement, and two fewer cylinders should equate to better fuel mileage. Also, the King Ranch is two-wheel drive so it should help more. I realize it is still pushing a 5,000-pound brick through the air, but it should get better mpg doing it. The KR is a super crew instead of a super cab, so maybe it weighs a little bit more I don't know. However, I still think it will get better gas mileage. I found out from the EcoBoost forum on FTE that Ford recommends oil changes not to exceed 10,000 miles. There was also a specific oil viscosity recommended but I forgot what it was. I'll have to go back and check. Love this look. The blue lighting should look cool at night. It has been a long time since I owned a vehicle with leather interior.
With only 108k on the odometer it should last quite some time with the minimum amount I plan on driving it. The main thing is that it starts up when I want it to and it will allow me to switch gears when I want it to. I did not drive it yet because I did not know at the time that my roommate would help me with the financing. However, I did sit in it and it was a lot easier to get in and out of than the Durango.
Very nice Truck Jim , King Ranch is top of the line next to the platinum, you deserve a good truck , if the price is right with great warranty package, I’d say go for it , how many miles and whats the maintenance history
It has 108k miles. I don't know the service history but will check it before signing anything. I will also take it for a test drive. I agree with you; I deserve a good truck after the last one. Believe it or not, both Bible study groups I attend during the week prayed about the old truck, or getting a new one. And I just happened to stop by this particular dealership on Saturday. I didn't even know they had a King Ranch on the lot. However, when my roommate agreed to pay half, so she doesn't have to bum rides all the time I knew I could get this truck. Her dad agreed to $2,500, so I can still do it, just makes the monthly payments a little higher unless the sales manager does indeed work with me on the price.
i thought the King Ranch was the top-of-the-line trim package. Guess not, in either case it is a moot point, I have always wanted a KR ever since I saw Steve Brick's (RIP) KR during the last gtg we had with the So Cal folks at Pismo. And black is my favorite color, so a black and tan KR is perfect. Reminds me of the Eddie Bauer paint schemes back in the day. My Bronco was an Eddie Bauer but green over tan. The color of the leather seats reminds me of stagecoaches. No clue why. Bet they never looked as fancy as this! I am going to ask the forums if the 2014 was a good year for the f-150 and in particular the EcoBoost. I don't want to buy another lemon...
Aren't we just a couple weeks removed from trying to get your roommate to move out?
Yes, but even after she moves out she can still pay half the bill. Of course, I have thought about that too. She may decide not to pay her half anymore and I would be screwed.
She does not drive, so I doubt she will steal the truck. I am having second thoughts about buy the truck though after reading the 2009-2014 forums. The EcoBoost is a high maintenance engine, and someone recommended get a lower trim model with the 3.7L V6 with no turbos. Mainly because I mentioned I am on a fixed income.
Something doesn't sound quite right when someone doesn't drive, and wants to buy a half of a truck.
Plus many other reasons why this is not a good idea.
I’ll second that opinion
On another note lots of deals for Veterans Jim , may need to call around or have a admin dig up some details for you , I’ll ask some of my buddies to see what they know .
Not going to buy the truck. it is my dream truck, and Lord willing, I may get one eventually, but I am not at a good point financially to take that on now. I will continue to work on getting my credit back up to the 700 range, so I won't need a second person to help me buy a vehicle. I will just try to find a shop that can fix my truck so I can use it. My dad used to talk about "a champagne taste on a beer budget" Seems to fit this situation. I also thought back to when I bought the Charger. Even though back then my credit rating was 718 I had too many other bills to pay and couldn't get to all of them with the huge (for me) payment of $400. I have been praying that the roommate moves out. Well, it looks like that will happen today.
Another reason to not get the truck.
Jim
if your roomie moves out dosent she help cover the rent, food, etc
Yes she does. She pays, or paid $100 towards the rent, and she helps with food. However, section 8 doesn't know she is here, and the manager knows and suspects, but has not said anything. She paid me $70 for rent this month. So I gave her until the end of the month to find a new place.
