I just brought the truck home! 
I am a happy camper. It shifts like it is shifting through butter now. No more He-Man antics needed. It has a year warranty, so it should last longer than a few days. The bracket keeps the cable about two inches above the exhaust manifold, and it has a heat shield wrapped around it for more protection.
Going to be hot here too. Friday and Saturday are forecast to be 103 and 105 respectively, with Sunday being down to 98 and Monday 85.

Just before COB, the shop called with an update. Passenger side ball joint is toast, diver’s isn’t as bad, tie-rod ends need help, a sticking caliper on the passenger side, steering box may need replacement, and to top it off the front driver’s tire has about 1/3 tread separation going. These tires haven’t even seen 30k on them in under 4 years.

Yes indeed. I now have a new shop to go to. I am finally happy driving the truck. So far it has started every time in park, and the engine is not coughing and sputtering, and I even got to enjoy the AC yesterday.
