Typical government. Hurry up and wait. I have an appointment with the social security office on the 19th of April. I can only imagine how long it will take to get that done.
May be moving soon. I'm thinking of moving to a senior only apartment, but not sure that will be possible. May end up in a low-income housing apartment. A few years back, they built a low-income apartment complex right across the street from the Fresno VA. In looking for a new place to stay that complex came up. One bedroom, 600 sq ft. for $753. they take section 8 and section 42. Have no clue what section 42 is, but I have section 8. The apartments are income restricted, but I am sure someone on section 8 qualifies. LOL.I sent them a request for info, but being the weekend probably will not get a response until Monday. There is only one unit available (looking at 1 bedrooms) so it may be gone already. There are two downsides that I can see. One is they want an $800 deposit, and the other is it is only 600 sq ft. My current apartment is 900 sq ft, so the new one is two thirds the size of this one. Must be really small. I don't have $800 just sitting around, but maybe I can get help from a VA organization like I did to help pay for the truck repairs.
I don't know what my total rent is here because I only pay a portion. I have the paperwork somewhere but of course, cannot find it right now. I "think" my rent is $755 but don't quote me on that. If so, moving into a 600 sq ft apartment to save two dollars a month is not worth it. Being across the street from the VA hospital would be nice but currently I am only two and half miles from there, a distance easily managed by the scooter. The main reason for the move is to "hide" from certain people. I am too easy when it comes to helping people with no place to go and want to get back to living alone. My current roommate was supposed to be here for only a month or two, and it has been six months. I have told her that April will be her last month here. Yesterday my caregiver informed me of a place for homeless/low-income families to stay as long as needed, so I passed that info on to the roommate. She will check it out on Monday if it does not rain all day which it is forecast to do. She is not the one I want to hide from, but I will need to be selective of those I do tell my new address to. Assuming I do get the chance to move. Moving into a senior only apartment will make it impossible for anyone to move in with me, (except another senior of course) so I won't need to worry about hurting anyone's feelings by saying no.
In other news, I made an appointment to get the gear selector problem fixed in the truck. It is set for April 7th early am. It is a shop in Clovis recommended by a friend at church. Will see how that goes.
My version of flatbread. Or maybe it's a tortilla. It's still pretty good. It's still a taco wrapper. Or whatever they call it in Asia when you eat it with meat, vegetables, and rice.
Preying for you Jim , if the person is helping on the rent , why send them off ?, unless they just need gone , slobs or whatever reasons,
took the boat out yesterday, I like it , a few things I’ll need to do to make it better like , lower the ores , add some rod holders , Boat ( bust out another Thousand )🙉

Because section 8 is a PITA to change from on person to two. And it was supposed to be temporary. With her BF getting out of prison in June, there is no reason to go through the hassle of adding her, just to remove her in a few months. And she is not on the lease because it was supposed to be temporary. She is fine, and her son is okay most of the time, but I am so used to living alone I want to go back to it. The reason I want to move is to get a cheaper place. Contrary to what the manager says this is not the cheapest one bedroom in Fresno. Maybe when I moved in seven years ago, but they have raised the prices the last three or four years, and now for new residents it is over 1k to move in. I found a condo for rent, 850 sq ft, with a patio, and washer/dryer in the unit for $753 a month. it is listed under apartments for rent on the website, but it is a condo. That is the one I am hoping I can get.
What's the cost per square foot? How much is the deposit?
How much are you really going to save? What's your out of pocket cost after the rent voucher?
It will cost money to move. Hiring movers. Renting a truck. Will cost money.
I am currently paying $364 per month on a $770 lease. The last time the rent was raised my portion did not go up. So, that $770 could be higher. I still have not found the latest lease paperwork. The deposit is $800., cost per square foot is $0.885.
Don't need to rent a truck, I own a truck. I might hire movers, but I will check with my church first and see if anyone would help me move and what it would cost. Usually, I move myself with a few friends. However, this time I would be able to do the driving, but not much heavy lifting. Both places have a fridge and stove, so no moving that. The washer and dryer are already in the new unit. I have a microwave and toaster oven, vacuum cleaner, and 42" TV. Biggest item is the full-size bed, heaviest item is my safe. Most the stuff in the bedroom, and bedroom closet belong to my roommate. She has plenty of friends who can help. I like the fact that the new place has a washer/dryer, and also a fireplace and patio. However, I can live without them if the cost difference is not enough to make the hassle of a move worth it. And of course, if I can't get help with the $800 deposit it is all a moot point as I don't have that kind of money just sitting around.
My thoughts are that you will need $800, to pay more rent in a smaller space. And whatever it will cost to get help with the move.
The other foreseeable issue is this roommate. What if she doesn't vacate the unit? I would just tell her that you're moving and that she needs to move out. After she's out, you won't have to move.
I'll be paying less rent. That is what section 8 does for you. The rents are similar, so my portion should be similar. As for the roommate, I told her April is her last month here. There is a place here that is newly constructed that helps homeless, low-income people with a place to stay and even free food. She will be checking into it tomorrow to see if she can get in.
